Cel300A + Abit BH6 not booting

Hi guys,

I got this board a long time ago and it has been on most of the time since it was built. It was given to my in-laws a year or so ago. They have been using it just fine for a while until 2 weeks ago when it simply stopped booting. They mucked around some making sure PCI cards and IDE cables were plugged in but couldn't get anywhere with it.

So they brought it up to me to fix. Of course that was the last Intel stuff I owned so I dont have spare mobo/cpu around to test and find out what is busted.

A quick test with only cpu, pci video card, and 128mb pc100 sdram plugged in would not POST nor show anything on the video out. The PS fan went on and so did the CPU fan etc, so it seems like the power supply is not completely dead though I have not put it through any rigorous testing. I do have spare PS, Ram, Video, HD etc so that stuff is easy to test.

I have never replaced the CMOS battery so that is a place to start but i cannot believe it would prevent the machine from booting. any other ideas?

ps- And yes I know another solution is to just junk it and buy a new AMD mobo/cpu combo for $100 but I wanted to fix this as cheaply as possible considering they were happy with it until it stopped working.

So nothing at all comes up on the monitor?

Absolutely nothing comes up on the monitor. It just sits there blinking orange indicating no signal.

No beeps from the mobo either. Either its the mobo or cpu, hard to tell without a good slot1 cpu or mobo around to test though.

I had an athlon slot a do similar. I noticed that the caps around the processor were leaking. I don't know if the slot 1's had many. Might check that. I bet you can pick one up from the geeks for $30.

wfay, some tips before ya junk that board. try powering on without keyboard and then without mem. (for beep tests).
But what should work is to drain power supply by hitting on switch with it unplugged, then attempting to power up with
the insert key held down, this may take many attemps

also try lots of hitting on button while switching power supply switch on/off or if ya don't have one, wall pluging/unpulging
