abit slocket !!!
566 @ 850, 8.5x100mhz 1.85V
hercules geforce 2 mx
pc 133 128mb ram

anyone have any suggestions?
Should i just raise the voltage settings?
If i do, won't the temp be too high?
how high of a temp is too high? (where should i put the temperature diode thing?)
I am having cooling problems?
What's causing this locking?

please help me
thanks

i've just got the cpu last week.

windows 98se boots up fine, but when i'm playing quake, surfing the net, or just decompressing a file, the system occasionally locks up on me and i have to pull out the plug to reset it.

is this an os thing? because i took out my old 300a@450
and put this one in its place without reinstalling windows.

what heatsink/fan do you have? This could be a heat related stability issue, and if it is adding more voltage is only going to make matters worse. Ideally you should stay below 42c on an overclocked celeron with that kind of voltage. I am using an orb and am happy with it.

are you setting the voltage in the bios? try using the slotkets jumper settings instead, you'll probably have to reset your bios. there was a thread earlier about how it increased stability. dunno if it will help but its worth a shot.

My celeron566 is more stable at 952 than at 850. I get all kinds of registry errorr/read errors at 850, but none of that (though more instability) at 952. Try running at a FSB just over 100 and see if that fixes things.

Its possible that you just might need more juice. I run my 850 at 1.95v and its perfectly stable.. i leave my computer on 24/7, but i reboot once a day for safety and windows just gets bogged after a while

Forgot to add that i use a golden orb, and 2 60 mm fans sucking air away from the cpu at the back of the case. powersupply fan right above cpu has 92 mm fan sucking air away

ok, I re-installed 98se, updated all drivers and everything seems to be more stable. No more funky random lockups.

unfortunately i'm using the default heat sink with some thermal grease. Temp with the diode thing on the heatsink is about 42C.
System temp is much lower than that.
Am i good for heat?

thanks a lot everybody

the cooler the better. Many 566's dont reach 850 any more without extreme voltage.

my 533 and 566's run at 100 fsb or 105 fsb with 1.65v, which is good imo. 1.6 or 1.5 at 100 is SUPER, 1.7 is okay, anything higher. i dunno what to say.
