I have started a new thread for this issue.

OK, this is a New Celeron 566 (Copermine), and New ASUS S370-DL Slotket on an ABIT BH6 MoBo.
I have installed this with the Slotket voltage at default, as well as setting the voltage at 1.8v. I have also tried it with both the Copermine and Celeron settings.

This setup will just not Boot at all, DEAD-DEAD-DEAD. The drives spin up but no BEEP or BOOT. My old Celly 400 and 266 both work like a charm with this MoBo, but this new Combo will not boot.
What are the Odds on which is the problem? Would it more likely be the Slotket or the CPU?

I took the Sloitket over and tried it on my stepson's PC. I built it for him a couple of years ago with an ABIT BH6 and Celeron 366, on a generic slotket, running at 550mhz. I set my ASUS Slotket voltage to "Default" and for "Celeron CPU? I then put his 366 on it and fired up the PC. Still no beep and no boot. I put his CPU back on his Slotket and it booted right up.

This leads me to believe that there may be a Slotket issue and that maybe the CPU might be OK.

What do you think?

One of the ASUS S370 slockets (the taller one) is known to be not so compatible with several mobos. I can't guarantee it is the source of the problem though. btw, did you jumper it properly (cpu type, fsb, etc...)? Or else your slocket might just be dead...

btw, cpu type on the slocket should be coppermine, not celeron for celeron II's. Before you power up your BH6, you should also hold the "Insert" key, so that the mobo will boot at the cpu's default speed (566 with 66Mhz FSB). Finally, did you flash your bios to support coppermine cpu's?

Thanks for the response.

"One of the ASUS S370 slockets (the taller one) is known to be not so compatible with several mobos."

This is the S370-DL

"btw, cpu type on the slocket should be coppermine, not celeron for celeron II's. Before you power up your BH6, you should also hold the "Insert" key, so that the mobo will boot at the cpu's default speed (566 with 66Mhz FSB). Finally, did you flash your bios to support coppermine cpu's?

Yes, I jumpered for "Copermine", default voltage, used the "Insert" key, and have the latest SS Bios that is supposed to support upto Celeron II 700.

Regarding the Insert Key, with other CPU's you get a "Checksum Error" or "CPU is unworkable or has been changed ERROR" if you do not hold this key down. This one will not Boot or Beep at all. Not even enough to get into BIOS.

Herkulese,
I had a nearly identical problem last week and I would have to agree that it sounds like a Slotket problem (either dead or incompatible). I have a BH-6 v1.01 w/SS BIOS and a CII 566 @ 850 on an Abit SlotketIII. Everything was working fine w/ the jumpers set to auto on Slotket and using the soft CPU for setting up voltage and speed. Then I had to go and mess with things. I couldn't get into Win2k at 8.5x112 at 1.7v (the highest voltage in soft CPU) so I set soft CPU to default and manually set the jumpers on the Slotket for 1.75v. Well, I got what you got; hard drive spins up but nothing else, no beeps, no video signal. So I tried going back to auto on the jumpers and still nothing, even holding down the Insert key. I tried several different settings and still nothing so I put my old C266 back in and checked the CPU settings in BIOS. Finally I tried manually setting the Slotket to 66 FSB and 1.5v (stock voltage for my CII) and everything worked. Oddly enough, w/ the Slotket set to a specific frequency and voltage, I am still able to go into soft CPU and set the CPU to 8.5x100 just like before. So my suggestion is to put the C266 in and set the soft CPU to default for voltage (you can disable the error hold option also, it just lets you know that things have changed). Then set the slotket jumpers to the values which apply to your CPU (8.5x66, 1.5v?) and give it a boot. If this works, you may be able to use the BIOS to change settings at a later time. Good luck.

PullMyFinger,

Thanks for the detailed reply.

I would try what you suggest, except for the fact that the only jumper settings on the ASUS S370-DL Smart Slot-1 converter are for Voltage and Copermine/Celeron selection. Yes, I do have it set for the Copermine CPU. There are no jumpers for FSB or Mult. It must auto recognize the mult and the 66/100/133 fsb settings.

I tried setting the voltage at 1.8 volts, but with no success.

Meanwhile I have gotten an RMA# for this Slotket and have orderd an MSI 6905 Master ver 2.3 Slotket from PowerUp PC where I bought the CPU. The technician that I talked to said that he tested it with a Celeron 566 before sending it out. I should have it next Tuesday, and will post back with the results.

It does sound to me that you have a faulty slocket then! And, yes, I found out the taller slocket was the S370-133. I actually had a S370-DL in a BH6, and a BF6, and it worked fine on both mobo, so it's probably just this one slocket that is being defective!

I tried am MSI-6590 Master ver 2.3 and it is dead as well.
I ordered it from Power Up, where I got the Celly 566 from. They tested it with a 566 before shipping and had all jumpers set.

Now I do not know what to think.
I am going to put my old CPU in and hard set the mobo for 566mhz, 66fsb, 8.5mult, 1.6volt core, save and shut down. I will then put back in the MSI Slotket and 566. If this does not work, I am RMA'ing the lot.

This is extremely disappointing. I am not even OC'ing and it just will not do a thing.

Could someone explain the coppermine/celeron setting on the S370 Slotket? I have a 766 celeron. Is there any advantage to one setting over the other....or worse yet any damage caused by setting one over the other. I ask as I have mine set for celeron and have no problem at default (766) or o/c'd to 863....many errors at 957....and of course 100mhz FSB will not post. Would going to the coppermine setting be the key to getting stability at 83 FSB?
