Celeron 566 & P2B = No video

I got a new Celeron 566 and can't seem to get it to work with my P2B (rev 1.02) and MSI 6905 Master (v2.3) combination. I (obviously) want to overclock the processor but I can't even get it to work at 566mhz. I've set every jumper on the slocket and motherboard to the correct settings and I still am left with no video. Everything else powers up fine with the exception of the CPU fan (which runs off of the motherboard's header and I've confirmed works if power is applied to it). The Asus P2B has the latest BIOS revision (1012).

Could someone who has this combination (or one close to it) tell me what settings you're using? I have the slocket set to automatically detect FSB (I've tried "Virtually set to 100Mhz&quot, CPU Define on jumpers 1 and 4 (I've tried 100Mhz), Single processor (again, I've tried Coppermine 256K), and I have the voltage set to 1.70v (I've also tried setting it to Auto). The motherboard has been set to both 66 and 100mhz FSBs along with every possible multiplier (even though it shouldn't matter). I'm currently posting this from the orignal configuration: Celeron 300A@450.

Any ideas? Or is it possible I have a fried CPU. The behavior of the computer with the new processor plugged in is identical to its behavior when no processor is present.

OUCH, I hope you haven't run it for more than 10 seconds at a time without a CPU fan! You definitely NEED this plugged in for a stable chip. Try it.

Also, it could be your CPU and you frying it already. But, take it out, reseat it fully into the socket, and apply thermal grease, and plug the fan into a fan-header that works properly. See if that simple change fixes it.

You may have to update the BIOS of your motherboard. Go to the manufactuers website and download the new BIOS and flash it.

No, I definitely haven't run the processor for more than 10 seconds. And it's not that the fan isn't plugged in, it's that the fan is plugged in just fine and won't come on (the motherboard doesn't apply power to the fan headers when there is no CPU detected). I've tried re-seating the processor several times to no avail. Also, as I mentioned, I do have the latest BIOS and it does claim Celeron II compatability (and I'm sure there are several people on this board that have the P2B running with the same processor as me).

I'm still open to any suggestions.

I'll try and find someone else who is using a FC-PGA processor so that I can find out if the processor is dead.

Okay, I just got back from testing the processor and it DOES WORK. So, I haven't fried it, yet ;-)

Nevermind.... I just found out what was wrong. For some reason, the slocket needs to be set to 1.8v. I found that out at the following site: CTechNet.com

I had the same problem and set the socklet to 1.65 and it worked for me and was a good base voltage to work with also...

Bartman - are you saying that you have a P2B and 1.65v worked? Or do you have another board that just wouldn't work unless you changed to voltage to something other than 1.7v?
