celeron 633 and soyo 6bva +III probs...

i have a celery 566 @850 on a soyo 6bva +III mobo.. it's running fine at 1.85v.. i got a celery 633 with the hopes of getting to 950..
only prob is i can't get the board to boot with the chip.
i started at 100mhz bus and got nada so i tried setting it to 66mhz bus and the chip still wouldn't boot!!!!... i have a msi slocket 5090 i think is the model number.. could it be that the slocket is not compatable with the 633 but is compatable with the 533???
what else could be the prob? could i have a faulty chip?
could my mobo not support a multiplier that high (9.5)???
need help badly peeps..

My guess is that barring a bad chip, your BIOS doesn't have the cC0 stepping microcode.

The slotket should not be a problem, if it worked with a 566 because the 566 and 633 are both Celeron IIs meaning FCPGA so slotket should be compatible with both. The likely problem is with the default voltage with the two chips. The 566 is 1.5 while the 633 is 1.7. I just had to flash my MoBo with a new bios to support the 1.7. Before I did this all I got was loud beeps and no boot. Try the latest Bios flash for your board, it may work!

i flashed my bios and still no go.. i flashed it to a default of 1.8v just to be sure and still no go ...

have you reset your bios when you changed processors???

yup.. i cleared the cmos when i changed the chips and still no go.

well.. i bought a new slocket and it works with the 633@950.. darn it.. i thought that MS6905 would work with any cpu.. i bought an asus and it works like a charm on the soyo board...
oh well.. you learn something every day.
