My celeron400 bit the dust on me when I was trying to play on the UT saturday night So... I got myself a 533A and an Iwill Slocket II. And the highest I've been able to overclock to is 760 (95mhz bus). I have no idea what's stopping me from 800. I really felt 800 should've been possible since so many others are getting 900+. I even tried pushing the voltage up to 1.9V at 800mhz and it was a no go. I've got an Alpha heatsink with a YS Tech fan and I'm using the cheap silicone based heatsink compound from radio shack. So any advice? Should I try silver based heatsink compound? Should I just let it "burn in" at 760 and try for higher in a few weeks. Is the Iwill Slocket II just lousy for o/cing? Any advice you can give will be most appreciated

What MB do you have?

I'm running a BX6r2, Abit Slotket!!!, Cel 533A, and GW FKP32. 800MHz - no problem. Got some CitcuitWorks Silver conductive grease for a test. I could tell no significant difference.

Got the Slotket!!! set at Auto for both voltage and FSB speed. Using QR BIOS, but earlier Bios worked OK. Just didn't report the right CPU, but ran just fine.

1. MB/slotket incompatibility, or slotket settings.
2. CPU won't do 800.
3. ???

The Iwill II may not be your best choice. Also, you may just have a chip that won't do the dance. They don't all do it. I'd try a different brand of slotket. The MSI Master seems to be the favored one and I've had the best luck selling it with my combos. Try also setting your ram to cas3 if you are running at cas2.

I'm using an Aopen AX63 Pro, I know it's not the best but it should be able to handle this celery. I tried out my friend's P3 and it ran at 6.5x124 at cas2 so I think my ram should be good. I'll try cas3 just in case (it is samsung PC100). Unfortunately that p3 was SECC2 so i couldnt test out this slocket

oh yeah just fyi, I tried setting the slocket FSB to auto and 100mhz, it didnt make any difference. And windows isn't just freezing when it locks up, it gives me a BSOD! Is there any significance to that?

The s-spec on my chip is SL46S. It's a week 20 chip. I saw a picture of an SL46T that was a week 8 and it could overclock over 900mhz!? It doesn't make sense to me to have a newer chip but with a lower letter in the s-spec. Can anyone that's had success ( compuwiz? ) can you please tell me the s-spec and week of your chip?

SL46T is an OEM 566 bulk chip, where the SL46S is the 533a OEM version. So far I've found no rhyme or reason to the belief on these that any particular week is any better or worse than the rest. I did happen to have a tray of 10 week 14 SL46T chips that were very bad once, where I only got 4 of them to 850. Others, however had some of that very week that were doing just fine. Overall, I still have about 75% success at 850. I only buy SL46T's and SL46S CPUs.

I tried all the way up to 1.9V !! No luck! BUT, i looked at my slocket again (Iwill) and the sides of the plastic housing weren't snapped together all the way. I took a small screwdriver and popped it apart and on the back side of the slocket there's wires that have been soldered from the voltage jumpers to certain pins. It looks more tacky (to me) than the hack on Tom's hardware page to make older slockets run coppermines. So what do you make of this? Is this the way Iwill makes their slockets? Or did the local shop I bought it from try "fix" a broken slocket? Compuwiz, thanks for trying to help me. If it turns out being the chip, I'll come to you for a new one

OK well I got an Abit and it's now somewhat stable at 800mhz but I crash out of Q3. I put a 120mm fan right on the processor, I know it can't be heat. I'm thinking it's the mobo. I'm suspecting my via chipset. Gonna try a BX board tonight.

Sorry, I can't get an MSI locally, so I had to exchange my Iwill for the Abit. They wouldn't refund me

But please don't get me wrong, I do respect your opinion, and I have an MSI mail ordered. It should be here in a few days

A celeron is in par with duron!!!
long live Intel!!!
Good news for all you Intel folks!
Intel knew what they were doing till this day
and their old technology rivals that of AMD new technology
or that what you thought, a technology they so called
stole from Intel using private detective, or should I say theives
Remember to ignore all these folk claiming duron being all that powerful, well ya won't know will ya until you actually use both of them side by side.
It just hype it just balony period.
Another good reason to put even more money into AMD pocket?
In my life I have never bought anything from Intel but AMD/Cyrix is all from their AM5x86 133mhz, and AM486 120mhz
What did they do with all my money I paid them?
If it weren't for us folk they would have died off just like Cyrix
a little better then Cyrix, just lucky I guess.
Screw AMD, I bought all of there K6-2, and what they do?
Decided to just leave us behind, and start making SlotA, SocketA
etc making us BUY newer motherboard inorder to ugprade.

Now if I had gone with Celeron, I could buy new cpu only
and overclock to 850mhz!!!
Saving at least 150-200 dollars!!

Bottomline is, you see how they screwed us K6-2 USER?
I'm stuck with these piece of crap unless I take out
my motherboard and CPU and throw it in the trashcan within
a month from here.
I can't upgrade any further! 500-550mhz indefinitely!
