(instead of calling and getting put on hold.. I'm asking here)...

If the area code of my phone is here in NY... and I visit CA... someone from here calls my # at 930PM but 630pm CA time... does it use my PEAK minutes ?

Your nighttime/weekend minutes are determined by the time zone of the area code for that phone.

For example, my phone is on CST. If I'm in CA, which is two hours behind CST, my phone still goes by CST, b/c that's where my phone is billed to. Hope this helps.

nice... so if I were to move to CA permanently and kept a NY area code (just never bothered to change), I can use nighttime minutes at 6PM...

No no... your off peak minutes will start at 9PM CA time.

EDIT: Well, at least for my provider (Sprint).

Wrong. I travel extensively on business. My minutes always go by the BILLING area of my phone. I have Sprint.

I'm only going by what I was told by CS. I brought that question up with the sales rep before I signed up for service. Though I've never had to use it.

I have sprint as well, and mine have always seemed to go based on the time zone that I'm in...

VZW rep just confirmed it goes by the timestamp on the handset... which changes depending where you are. 9:01pm is when off-peak starts, local to you.

12am calls to CA suck.

Yup, AT&T goes by the time zone you are in too. I'm in CA, and have 7pm nights, so if I'm in the east coast, I get nights when my friends call my at 4pm from CA.

T-mobile always billed according to where I am. Or rather where the cell phone is.

Well, I guess I either read my bill wrong or the Sprint rep mislead me.
