<< does gsm cover washington DC area? and nyc area? >>

Go here: LINK and on the left, choose Coverage Map.

I just went for the switch to GSM and got the phone for $49.95. The CSR told me that you need to be an ATT customer for at least 11 months to qualify for the discounted equipment costs. My plan is 600 anytime and 3000N/W (w/ 1 year). If I sign a 2yr, I get 50% more minutes, giving me 900 anytime. I'm thinking about it.....

Anyways, thanks JeffCutter!

Thanks to PKPunk - he pointed me to it.

PKPunk or iamme, you should really think about reposting this as a new hot deal - $50 for T68!

i will never ever buy an ericson, i think they are awful phones (my personal opinion)
Im looking for a phone but my only option is pretty much cingular. At&T doesnt offer coverage right over my house (u step out of my house and it works just fine) and all the other carriers like verizon and sprint dont offer the nokia phones i want
seems quite expensive

Hot deal for the phone for $50, but ATT seems to have incredibly sparse GSM/GPRS coverage. Also, their rates for these phones suck (I've seen a lot of posts here about them offering massive minutes to people w/ the older technology...TDMA or whatever). $39.99/month, no roaming, $.03 per K of download (by my math that's $30 for a meg...can that possibly be right??) and .10 per text message. Probably not too long before they make up that $150

Compare this to VS, and it looks pretty bad. But then again, they don't have this phone.

here's the deal on the t68i. for those of you cell phone enthusiasts, there is a t68 and a t68i. the only diffference between these two phones is the aesthetics. they both have the same hardware in them and will eventually have the same firmware on them (you will have to get the t68 updated). the t68i will have the sony-ericsson name on it.

i can pretty much assure you that $200 is what it's gonna sell for, BUT it will probably be locked down on AT&T's network. what does that mean? it means that you won't have all the features that an unlocked phone has, such as gprs if it's not enabled.

linkage for a comparason of the two!

let me just tell you that ericsson phones are probably the best phones on the market right now. i've had my t39 since last year and it's great. i love the gprs and bluetooth features on it and i use them all the time. i have the headset and everything.

it's a shame that nokia hasn't released any triband phones yet.

just a side note: i had a t68 that i used for a month and then sold it. i now own a t39.

what sucks is that you only have 72hour return policy with most providers that sucsk how do you test coverage area in 72hours. i got mine 2 weeks ago i just want far away from home this weekend and the service sucked but i can't even return it or it will cost me $200 cancellation charge, yet i can go exchange the phone for 30 days like that's going to help, i have the 3rd highest model they offer and paid a lot for the phone.

Which provider is that with? ATT told me they have a "30 days Buyers Remorse".

Nokia 3360 is a very nice phone (for areas with TDMA, at least in the Rochester, NY area). I have it, it has wireless internet and multiplayer snake. what else do u need to stay entertained through a long day of school...er...not at school...yeah...hehe

<< Where can you get the T39? >>

you can get the t39 at a lot of places on the web. just do a search under yahoo shopping and they list a bunch of places. a good reputable shop that has tons of mobile accessories is expansys in the UK. i've my bluetooth headset from ustronics and they had some fast delivery.

the only thing you'll have to do it get a firmware update on your phone. the newest firmware for a t68 is R2B and on a t39 it's R3B. you can get firmware updates free of charge from ericsson. call them and send your phone in. usually takes a week to get your phone back...sometimes longer.

oneeyejack7 - yeah, I was wondering about that "unlocked" thing...

I know the gray market t68's that you can get on fleabay are generally shipped from the UK, and are unlocked to work on any GSM network (I guess voicestream has much better coverage than ATT so far).

I was thinking though, that if you didn't like ATT you could kill that contract after the year was up and then get some (shady?) cell phone techie to hook his programmer up to this phone and "unlock" it. Isn't that possible.

Don't you suppose there is a way to hack the t68i to work on any network once your contract with ATT is up?

you don't even need to hack into it to get it to work!! usually cell phone carriers will give you an unlock code that you can enter in to unlock the phone. i don't recommend using those software programs to unlock a phone. i still have a ericsson t28w that was on cingular's network. i called them after i've been on their plan for about 6 months and they gave me the unlock code.

i still recommend just getting the t68. youll have all the features you want and you don't have to bother will the hassle of getting it unlocked. if you're traveling in europe/asia, buy a pre-paid sim and just pop it in. you don't even have to worry about long distance charges and this and that.

just a FYI, AT&T's GSM network isn't as good as VS's network as you can see from the coverage map. if you guys are thinking about going GSM, i would definitely choose VS because they've been established for sometime. AT&T also has expensive GSM rates.
