FYI - the SonyEricsson T68i will be coming to US later this year. They are available in Asia and throughout Europe now, but have only been available in the states through gray market fleaBay sellers for around $400.

The phone has just about everything you could possibly imagine, including color screen and tons of games and ringer tunes that sound like full bands playing music. Plus, the phone supports BlueTooth wireless which means you can use the somewhat impratical (yet space aged) wireless headset or the extremely practical wireless PC connection (e.g. phone in your pocket, and PC on your lap and no cables connecting the two while you surf the net).

I believe the will be around $200 once it is released in the US. You may want to wait for this phone...

not sure if a hot deal or not but I just got one for my wife and I :

Cellular One

$50 dollar activation fee
Free (yea right) Ericssion 1228
$10 dollars a month
8 Cents a min.

I thought it was a pretty good deal for my wife and I because we don't talk on the phone that much but both still need the capability. We share this plan and it was cheaper than anything else for a two phone plan than I could find.

Biggest problem is that this may be a select area plan. In Columbus/ Ft Benning, GA This plan was offered to military only.

hey guys, what's a good normal cell phone. I don't need one that does all that whiz bang microwave in 5 seconds without power.
Just one that takes and receives calls and has a phone directory. I hardly would ever use it, maybe 60 mintues a month or so.

i miss the good old days of free phones with 0 contract. I hate this long 2 year contracts they want to screw you with bad service and 2 years of nightmare.

i dont remember them ever giving away free phones with no contract..they have to recoup their investment. Cell phones aren't cheap, even the basic Nokia 3360 probably cost carriers $100.

abaez: If your looking at Cingular TDMA (most of their area, except for on the west coast) or AT&T, good phones are the Nokia 5165 (usually given away for free with a 2 year agreement) or the 3360 (slightly smaller, will run about $50 - has slighlty more features). I have the Nokia 3360, and it works great

$200?

With a color display and built in Bluetooth....I doubt it..

I'll believe it when I see it. Don't get me wrong, I'm and ATT customer, and I'l lbuy that in a hearbeat if it retails for $200

Agreed Ogweo - the communicator is sweet. I have wanted one of those since James Bond drove his BMW with one.

Also - iamme - The $200 tag was what was quoted in the Reuters article. I would imagine that is with a 1 to 2 year agreement of course. The $400 you are paying to folks on fleabay is to make up for the fact that they don't get a service commission for the new cellular contract.

But I agree with you, at $200 the T68 will be a sweet deal. The communicator will be nice, but I don't need all that functionality 98% of the time, and I can't justify the bulk of the unit for just that 2% of full featured use. The T68 with it's T3 interpretive text input will let me type almost as fast.

My friend's dad has a 60 minute plan with Voicestream i think, with a nokia 8290 I dunno how much it costs but i guess you can look into it, the phone is pretty good, nice and slim with no antenae sticking out.

I know that wasn't your personal estimate I'm doubting the article.

But, like I said, I'd get that phone in a second at that price

The Motorola V60t through AT&T Wireless is listed at 250.00 on their website, so paying 50 bucks more through best buy is probably not much of a deal.

Just wanted to say that this sony/ericsson phone is avaible in the US. you get it from AT&T's Mlife program. but the bad new is that it's only released in two markets right now, chicago and somewhere else, and AT&T will only roll in out in a few big cites at the end of the year. but you can go to the mlife page and click on phones and see they do sell it for 199, that beats the hell out of the new nokia 8390 for the same price.

It seems that the sony/ericsson is going to rock all the other phones if it's only for $199.
What's the likelyhood of getting a deal if you go into one of these stores? Wouldn't you get a better deal if you go into a "authorized dealer" store, since they are more likley to cut you a deal than the network store?
This is kinda off topic, but I know that when decide.com was around, you were able to check the call quality in your area, do you guys know of any website that does this?

That's a great question, you may want to put a seperate post on this in the Off Topic forum. I'm interested to know personally, PM me the link if you ever do.

I was at BestBuy this weekend and the SprintPCS at the Costa Mesa Store at Metro was having a $100 MIR for all their phones. So you can get a SprintPCS phone for dirt cheap and if you sign up with a specific plan, they'll knock off 30% of accessories.

PKPunk is right - it is available now from ATT WS.

It seems like it is only available under their Wireless Internet sale program, not under any plain old cell phone deals. Click on the Order Now button at the top right of that page to see if it is available in your area.

T68 rocks.

Holy crap!

I just got off the phone with the AT&T GSM customer service. Sony Ericsson T68 phone is $50 with a 1 year service agreement!!!!!

She quoted me a plan of $39.99/mo for 700 anytime and 3000 nights and weekends. I'm not sure I get this because I've been with ATT so long. One bad thing is that ATT's GSM isn't available everywhere. If you go in an area that's not covered, your phone's a paperweight. But, a color display and Bluetooth!?!

Arg......is there any reason I shouldn't get this????

iamme that is a great deal.

Where are you located?

When word of this gets out it's going to put those ebay auctions down a notch or two!
