Sprint
SERO Program (1 line) for 2 years contract
500 anytime minutes plus unlimit data/internet and text per month
Nationwide coverage..only bad thing is no EV here yet..only 1X

$30 plus junk fees/taxes ~$34 per month

Motorola 9QC ~ $250 after all the taxes/fees/etc. but $300 rebate check from Sprint so I got the phone very much for free. Not bad at all.

<<<---- only use cell/mobile phone for the last few years. No longer need landline phone.

They charge for usage, and you knew this when you signed up. So,
1) Get off the damned phone and come up for air
2) Stop using it like Instant Messenger. Either it's worth calling, or not worth saying.

Reading all this and seeing the poll I'm getting more and more upset with myself. Think I'm gonna make a trip to Alltel soon...

It's a big ripoff, but what can you do? It used to be cheaper a few years back. Now they're providing new features and bumping up the prices, while reducing the options for cheaper plans. Last time I checked, 2 years ago, there wasn't a real plan for $30 that you could find on any provider plan listings. Anything $30 or under provided less than 50 minutes a month and barely anything else.

I used to get 300minutes and unlimited nights/weekends with Verizon years ago for $30.

Now I pay $40 (pre tax/fees) to T-mobile for 600minutes and unlimited nights/weekend, but I only use under 200 minutes. Most minutes go to nights/weekends.

AT&T
500 Anytime
2 phones
200 texts plus free mobile to mobile
$87/mo with discount from work

I wish Sprint had decent coverage around here, it would be much cheaper!

I love the new Sprint commercials...ONLY $99/month!
That's fucking robbery. If it were $39/month, it'd be a deal.

You would be much better off with prepaid phones. You wouldn't pay more than $20/month that way. Eighty bucks a month for 100 minutes of only talktime is NOT a "pretty decent deal."

Are you sure you have unlimited with that $30 SERO? I read a lot about this stuff a couple months ago, and the Sprint EVDO with SERO was $50 (a $10 discount).

Edit: Oh, I see it's 1x. Maybe that's why they give it to you for free.

I use a T-Mobile Prepaid that I put $100 on back in October. I still have $18 left. That's about $11/mo.

Blackberry 8830 WE at about $80 CAD/month. No idea what the limits are on my account because I never get close to them, so I don't worry about it.

T-Mobile Family Time 1000

2 lines
1000 min
Free N/W's
No text msging plan.. (usually just easier to call/wait till evening).

70.00 + taxes = 80.00

Haven't paid an overage in 4 years, although we're always close to the line by the time the billing date rolls around.

Their service has been exceptional for the 4 years I've been with them. No network issues others seem to have, at least not in NC/VA/MD/PA

Yes, unlimit data and text and internet, unlimit voice minutes after 7 p.m. and weekend, plus 500 anytime minutes.

The 1X and not EV is due to my BFE location. I was able to get EV speed in big cities like Dallas, Washington DC without any problem.

Where did you get the info about $50 SERO? Link?

I just checked SERO site and as of today 5-12-08, SERO is still $30 with all the goodies.

450 minutes, 0.15/text. Unlimited nights, weekends, in calling.

Normal usage: under 100 minutes/month, 0 text.
$45 after taxes/fees. Get a free phone every two years too.

...and I still think the text message fees are the single biggest rip off in the industry.

It's called having a family and friends. Not such a bad thing really.
Believe it or not, I have family and friends as well.

I also have a home phone and the internet, 2 things that don't rape me for extended talk time. Why should I piss away airtime on meaningless gab when I can do it from home and not have to worry about how long it's taking and if I'll go over my minutes? My typical cell calls are short (amazing if I go over 10 min), usually to arrange and/or clarify when I'm meeting someone in person so I can talk to them face to face and thus not have to worry about paying anyone.

If I want to have long conversations with people, I see them IRL. If I can't, I talk to them over my land line, where the most I have to worry about is long distance rates. No airtime, dropped calls, dead zones, dead batteries, or any of that other crap that comes with a cell. I have a computer IM client for text chats and messages, because I would go bugshit insane trying to text on a phone without a full keypad.

Actually, my biggest reason is probably that I work with a phone glued to my head all day and can't stand doing it any longer.
