I am trying to learn to program for the Cell BE processor on the PS3. I have Yellow Dog Linux (6.1) and the SDK (3.0) installed. I have run some sample programs from the IBM site and everything is eerily similar to pthreads. However, their documentation seems to be lacking at best (or perhaps it is just so spread out that I can't find what I am looking for). Either way all of their demo programs have one SPE program, and the PPE simply calls the SPE thread then exits. I guess this is ok if you are looking to utilize only 1 SPE and write about 200 lines of code to do something you could have easily done in 8, but that's not my thing.
I need to figure out how to create multiple SPE threads that will all run concurrently and wait for each other to finish. This doesn't have to be a big or complex example. In fact, preferably it would be small and simple. All the examples I have seen online use pthreads and then each thread spawns its' own SPE thread which seems ridiculous. There has to be a way to spawn off 7 SPE threads and join them just like pthreads. Does anyone have any suggestions?
