ok, so I got my burner. I'm new to this, so bear with me.

On the back it says Drive Model LTR-32123S and has a 12 digit (all number) serial. Does that mean I did in fact get the Lite-On?

Also, I hear that I can upgrade my burner through firmwares? How do I go about doing this?

I've bought 2 Cendyne drives. I got one Mitsumi and one Lite-On. I preferred the Mitsumi. Not because it was faster, but because it makes much less noise in all situations. Also, I have yet to encounter a write error with either drive.

The Philips have a $20 rebate from Philips on the package + $10 rebate from Staples. They are free after all rebates.

I waited 5 months for the Philips rebate on a 8X4X16 drive bought last summer (which just died 3 weeks before warranty expired). There were many threads about this particular rebate problem. As compensation (probably unintended), I, and I heard that some others, received the $40 twice, once from the folks I yelled at over the phone for the non-delivered rebate, and once when the normal processing finally took place

If you are a FW member, buy Staples through them and get 2.2% back as PayPal after 90 days. This jerk (moi) forgot to do that yesterday:|

Oops, I forgot to say before:

The Philips have a $20 rebate from Staples. Plus, if you bought between 7/21 and 7/24, there is a different $10 Staples rebate, which you could get as well since they are different offers, YMMV on this.

Plus, PM the CD-Rs to BB B&M flyer, $19 there after instant rebate. I just did and got $12 and change back.

The entire order would then yield:

$79.99 Cendyne Burner
$29.99 Phillips CD-Rs
-$50.00 Cendyne Rebate
-$20.00 Phillips Rebate
-$20.00 $20 off $100 Coupon
-$12.00 BB PM
-$10.00 Staples rebate
-$20.00 Staples rebate
=
-$22.02 + Tax + 4 stamps

and only $10.00 of this is iffy. Of course, the Philips rebate might be considered iffy as well, as I wrote above

Looks like a deals from yesteryear

The below thread has all the answers - I think you got a Verbatim (re-rebadged Lite-on)

The **Official** **Confirmed** Cendyne thread

LTR-32123S is the Liteon part number so you got a lite on - only problem is that it is not upgradeable
the model LTR-32123W is upgradeable and they are hard to find

enjoy cause it is a great burner

fwtong et al.,
The AOpen 32x drives are very good. I've installed several and they are all working like champs. The Acer branded and the Benq (also Acer) aren't nearly as good. The AOpens are based on Ricoh designs which you can tell by the JustLink that they use for coaster protection. See www.cdrlabs.com or www.cdrinfo.com for reviews. Some Aopen units may be a bit noisy, that's all.

Local OM is currently out, but say more might be in with tomorrow's shipment.

have 2 of these Cendyne burners bought at staples.

one was labeled 'model ltr-32123s' on the rear of the box.

another one just had a 12 digit serial number on the rear of the box.

both are Lite-On models ltr-32123s, which are not the overclockable. But the difference between a 40x and 32x burn speed is so little that it makes no difference to me.

I did this at Staples, this should be fairly easy and more than likely you will get it. staples in clawson and rochester hills, mi should have plenty instock. most are aopen and fews are liteon old model, i had to go through a fews to get my hand on the two liteon old model. there still fews more.

pm 59.99 from officemax to staples and buy 2 drive at 119.98
buy 1 phillips 100pk cdr for 29.97
buy 1 glue at .20 or anything you wish
the total should be approx. 150

use the 30 off 150 to get its down to 120

50 rebate x 2 = -100 for the cdrw drive
20 rebate x 1 = -20 for the phillips cdr

its will come out to be free plus tax.

i did not push for the 110 percents price guarranty because i already feel bad for the free product. imho, the store/business/manufacture should make something/profit so that they can stay in business and keep their employees. but that just imho.

have fun.
