Staples has these on clearance for $125. No rebate. I know that Cendyne is in bankruptcy so there is some risk but these are rebadged Pioneer A05s which are superb burners. If you have the coupon for customer appreciation day you can knock another $15 off the price bring it down to $110.

I have a Cendyne rebadged Pioneer that I have had for some time. It has worked flawlessly. I updated the firmware to the 1.33 unofficial version and it can burn quickly and efficiently.

Don't forget to get the 25pack 4X DVD-Rs at pcclub at $30.

These are the Ritek G04, the best 4X -R media on the market.

I have a Sony DRU500A but this deal seem so sweet......hrmm...does my gf really need a DVD burner??......I hate anandtech hot deals sometimes.

Cendyne has definitely gone out of business. That means you're buying the drive with no warranty. Well, unless you want to spring for whatever extended warranty Staples wants to sell you. But no rebates, so at least that's not an issue.

Actually the extended warranty may not be a bad idea if it's cheap. If for some reason the A05 goes bad, you tell them you want a drive that is 4X DVD-R compatible and they may have to give you a dual-format A06 or some other dual-format drive.

When you add on the sales taxes your're looking at paying about $130 to $135 for the Cendyne, for a few dollars more you can buy the Optorite (Sanyo builtl) dual 4x DVD-/+R/RW for $147 shipped and NO! taxes.

#499683 is the Staples item number. You can order this online and have them pricematch the clearance price (I did this so I know it works) and don't forget the $20 off coupon which brings it down to $105 + tax on $125.

for all you people worried about the warranty. You can buy a PRP for 19.99 which will refund the purchase price in a gift card if the drive fails within 2 years.

I got one of these Cendyne Pioneer 105 drives and I've yet to burn a coaster that was the fault of the drive or the media. I did three coasters because I did stupid things, but the drive has never produced one, and I use lots of cheap Lead Data media. I've burned close to 200 DVD-R, mainly copies of movies using DVD2One, and they have good compatibility with a variety of DVD players. Great drive.

echo that, except i made 4 coasters doing stupid stuff (like opening InstantCopy with DVD Decrypter running in the middle of a burn).

Note: The Staples protection plan is for "one additional year". Since Cendyne is out of business, you only have one year of warranty total if you buy the Staples plan.

I got this for $160 back when it retailed for like $250. It's been a perfect drive, too bad Cendyne went out of business, they were starting to get a good reputation.
