Once you flash the 32123S to a 40125S, is it possible to flash it to a 40125W?

According to the Firmware site these are the Lite-On firmwares.

LiteOn LTR-32123S XS0F, XS0R, XS0U, XS0X
LiteOn LTR-32125W WBS3, WSB4
LiteOn LTR-40125S ZS0A, ZS0G, ZS0J, ZS0K, ZS0N
LiteOn LTR-40125W WS05, WS09
LiteOn LTR-48125W VS01, VS02, VS04, VS06

According to this, XSOX sould be upgraded to ZS0N.

Do I miss something?

TIA.

OK, I found the answer.

If you have an Original LiteON you have to use the LiteON Firmware.

However, the OEM LiteONs (like the Cendyne), have to be flashed with OEM firmware.

This is a link to download the OEM that will turn the drive to x40.

http://people.freenet.de/maikhorst/XSU1.zip

Make sure that the DMA is OFF before flashing.

In WinXP you turn the DMA off by instructing the Drive to use PIO only.

After successful flashing you can turn DMA ON.

Good Luck!

Try reinstalling nero.

Sweet Now i can upgrade my 32x.

Just a warning, you might want to unplug all other flashable drives. I messed up my dvd drive by having it on the same channel as the liteon I was flashing. There's a known bug in MTKFLASH if you have two devices on the same channel that can be flashed with this program. The outcome may be a bad flash on both drives.

I haven't flashed my drive yet and I don't recall which store I got it from. Just one other thought, maybe your copy of nero was drive specific and now you have "technically" changed drives. Does Ez cd creator see your drive?

Actually the answer is simple. The version of Nero you are using doesn't recognize the 40x burner because it hadn't been created at the time your version of Nero was. Simply download the latest update of Nero and you'll be all set!

That's what I was thinking too. Although I do remember people commenting that the copy of Nero that came with these Cendyne drives weren't drive specific (they were able to use it with another burner in their system).

I remember the lo-n-n-g-g thread(s) on this Cendyne 32x drive when this subject first arose. The consensus then was that the 32123S was not upgradeable but that a newer revision, P (I think), was and a very few persons did apparently get this model. The vast majority were S. There also were discussions about whether or not to get a specific other one of the other Cendyne suppliers (Mitsumi maybe) because they were the ONLY one that had Mt. Ranier. Apparently there were relatively few of these and people were looking for them. That situation seems to have changed?? For what it is worth, and for how much I'm not sure, all the 32123S and 40125S Cendynes that I have seen were manufactured in the same month, March of 2002. What is the source of this new .bin file? It certainly did not come from the LiteOn website. There does seem to be a little difference in experience with it and I do not believe that it makes any difference whether the 32123S came from the earlier Staples sale or the later OM sale. They appear to be identical.

bit,

does your drive appear in bottom corner of nero as LITE-ON LTR-4012-5S. my drive was a tdk drive and nero wouldnt work until i downloaded a version that wasnt only for tdk. maybe try reflashing it.

try getting a newer version. if its a "newer drive" the nero that you have might not have been out after the "new" burner came out. So it doesnt know that you have a burner. just a thought. have no clue if its right

"The Mount Rainier standard, developed by Microsoft in partnership with a number of burner manufacturers, provides integrated and flexible management of CD-RW burners in the operating system. Formatting is a background task which goes on during copy; the CD can be ejected at any time; data is addressed in blocks of 2 KB instead of 64."
From Tomshardware. Not sure that it answers all of your question.

Nobody has answered ULIs question: "Once you flash the 32123S to a 40125S, is it possible to flash it to a 40125W?"
Don't see why not, but if so what does it gain you? According to the LiteOn website only more media. They say if it works don't flash it.

If your drive is identified as LTR-40125S, it's probably that CD media in the drive can only do 32x max. Just a thought.

I have a question: How is this possible to upgrade the drive with just firmware? Are there little or no physical differences in the 32123S and the 40125S?

Strange that Microsoft delevoped this, as even WinXP SP1 doesn't have built-in support for it.
