I noticed in the pictures, this board seems to have a 24 pin power connector. However, Chaintech's site claims that it has a 20 pin connector. Does anyone know what the score is? My Enermax Whisper II has a 20 pin connector, if this board does in fact have a 24 pin connector, does that mean I get to go the adapter route or will I need a new PSU?

I'm strongly considering purchasing this board.

i hope this is really a ULTRA for this price....considering that for the OTHER available boards, the CHEAPESt is like $240.....

Anyway i wont buy it without first reading reviews...and i STILL dont know which of these boards (MSI, Asus, Gigabyte) overclocks good and is stable.

It likely is an Ultra. The other boards that are $240+ are SLi boards.

Overclocking really isn't a concern of mine, I just want to be on an Athlon 64/PCIe platform, and I'd prefer to do it sooner rather than later. At this price, this is hard to beat, and Chaintech definitely makes good boards.

I have a few days before I plan to buy, so if anyone get around to reviewing it, of course I'll check that out before purchasing.

Anyone got any info on that power connector yet?

It's the Value Edition of the Ultra. Meaning all the muscle of the Ultra (native 3Gb Sata-II), but cut down with one gigalan instead of two.

This is very tempting.

I think I'll wait for an Asus, Gigabyte, or Epox offering though.

How do you tell that this is the "value" edition? I hope they don't start making this confusing. I'm going to be shopping for an NF4 Ultra board soon, as soon as there are some reviews. I hope we don't have to wad thru all of the specs to determine if it's a crippled Ultra or not.

im waiting for the x800xl also

It's been over two weeks since the X800/XL/X850 announcement - where are the cards? ATI's paper launches are getting old. I went ahead and got the BFG 6800GT OC instead for the extra $50.

What I need to buy this board

1)A good review, very in depth
2)Can a Zalman 7700 or ThermalRight XP-120 be mounted
3)Release the X800 XL

How is Chaintech's QC rep compared with the tier-1 board manufacturers (ASUS, Gigabyte, MSI etc)? I've heard of them but wasn't sure if they're known for cutting corners in the manufacturing process or anything unsavory.

well, i went ahead and got one. I bought the A8N-SLI and have had problems with it, and to RMA the board they want like 3 weeks. No way am i waiting that long when i can get an ultra (which i wanted originally anyways) in less than a week for $80 less. I called novapcs and i'm just gonna send the SLI board back. Besides, i bought a 24-pin vantec Stealth 520W PSU for $92 at newegg, and i highly recommend it, very stable, quiet, nice, tons of connections, and good for future PCs as well (in case you haven't noticed, new boards (LGA775 and NF4) are 24-pin, i imagine this will continue so that the PCIe boards can run more stable.

Oh, and as far as the X800XL is concerned, i think it looks like a great card, but i don't hold much hope of ATI getting it out the door by january. Considering the "immediate availability" of the X850s never happened, i don't think we'll see X800/XL cards till february/march. I recommend just going with a 6600GT (i like XFX, and they have dual DVI) for $180 and being done with it. With the extra $120 you save, that will go a long way towards your next GPU upgrade.

I ordered mine, hopefully be here next week. If it is a 20 pin power connecter I may consider returning my ultra x-connect 500w. Hmm... I'll just wait and see how it performs first.

Edit: also look at the placement of the ram... thats a tad odd.

Edit #2: Well I decided after spending over $2000 on this, what the hell is another $20, so the x-connect 24pin cable is on its way.

Haha, yeah I cancelled my A8N SLI last night, and ordered one of these. I wasnt planning on using SLI, and I want overclocking abilities. This is an amazing price for an ultra board, and if it works out to be similar in quality to their 754 board I think it will be a great find, not to mention its the first Ultra board out there. I am going to use my 20 pin Fortron and see how it does with stability, and will report on how that goes for me.

FINALLY I WILL GET MY PCIE SETUP, THANK YOU CHAINTECH AND NEWEGG!!!

This mobo with a 3000+ Win will come out to just over $300 shipped. I am very tempted.

Are there any good deals on a 3200 winchester?

Also looking for a nice deal on 6600GT or better card. Should be cheaper than the AGP version I was looking at.

TIA

-edit-

Monarch Computers has a 3200 win OEM for $179 with free shipping. Price will end up being $10 more than the 3000, but I need to add a cooler. Can anyone tell me if my old Thermalright 900 cooler will fit on this board? If not, what do you recommend.

Thanks again.

i've got the 3000+, and it's sweet. Newegg has the retail 3000+ for $154 shipped free. Personally, i'd just go retail for now, and wait till cooler companies officially list compatible mobos. Zalman, for example, doesn't have any PCIe boards in its official listing yet, so i bought the retail cooler to use until i figure out if i can fit it.

As for 6600GTs, i like my XFX. It's like $180 shipped, and i like the dual DVI. Software bundle could be better, but for $180, i'm willing to overlook it. As for performance, i can run farcry as high as my LCD will take me (1280x1024x32 w/AA/AF) without a hitch. Doom3 should scream, and HL2 is less demanding, so should be smooth as well.

X850XT Platinum will be $450 (if you take some time and look around)...and VERY likely be available Jan 1st...some retailers even last day of december. I am 99,9% sure.
