I pretty much plan to use one of these with a 20 pin PSU....is there an adapter, or what, that can go from 20 to 24?

I also bought one and also hope it comes with adaptor or whatever for this whole 20/24 pin thing. My first intention was to get a 3000+ to go with it. But I thought it was way too much of a gamble expecting it to get up near 280-300 even fsb to get the most possible out of that chip. So I paid the 24 extra and got the 3200+ just for the more fsb friendly multi.

Will zalman cnps7700 (120mm) fit on this board? The DIMM slots look very close to the cpu socket..
The board looks so boring when compred to Asus's SLI board...

I don't think there is such a thing as the Nforce4 Ultra Value Edition.

There is only the Nforce4, Nforce4 Ultra, and Nforce4 SLI.

Whether or not a particular mobo supports one or two GbE is up to the Mobo MFG, and whether they include an additional ethernet chip or not. It has nothing to do with the Nforce chip.

One thing I notice is that this board does not have any 1394 support. I really like this board otherwise, but I think I want something with 1394 support.

Do any of you consider the lack of Firewire and problem? The only device I can think of every buying that might use 1394 would be a DV Camcorder, but I don't even have one of those yet. Actually, I think I might also get an external HDD for backups and most of those are firewire.

Anyhow, what are your overall thoughts on the lack of firewire? I think it's kinda cheesy not to offer it on an "Ultra" board, but that's just me.

Also, I see no reason (other than high demand) for the SLI Mobos to be over $150, and for the Ultra Mobos to be over $125. At those prices, they'd be pretty comparable to the NF3 and Intel boards. So, $119 to me seems reasonable for a board that is lacking the 1394 support.

Later,
D'oh!

I'm strongly debating on weither to get the chaintech nForce4 Ultra ($119) or getting the MSI K8N Neo2 nForce3 Ultra Platnium.

What would you guys do? Also, when is the MSI Neo3 nForce4 Ultra Platnium coming out?

i'd go NF4, cause the SATA-II and PCIe are definitely gonna come in handy in the future. In fact, with SATA-II's hot-swappability, you can actaully have external SATA drives (My soon to be returned A8N-SLI even had an external extension slot for 2 such devices), so firewire external HDDs will soon be unnecessary. Besides, if you really need firewire, most good PCI sound cards have them (besides, are you really gonna fill 3 PCI and 2 PCIe slots?

Looking at the layout, it seems like the XP-120 would probably fit. The DIMM slots are far enough away. The only potential problem is that row of caps.

I also like the fact that PCI-e x 16 slot is a fair distance away from the CPU socket unlike the AGP layout. The downside is that there are only 3 PCI slots and I'll lose one of those with an NV silencer, although that would be the least desirable PCI slot anyway.

It'd be nice to get some reports on how well this thing overclocks. Too bad none of the official sites have attempted a serious review of any of these boards.

I will be fitting mine with an xp-90 on monday or tuesday, and will report on how much clearance there is. I agree that the caps would probably be the biggest problem. I am so excited to finally have a complete computer I can hardly contain it.

X850XT Platinum will be $450 (if you take some time and look around).

Where did you see that? The only places I've seen had it for pre-order only and the cost was in the mid $600 range.

if you have placed an order from newegg, and they are waiting on credit card verification, do they still reserve one in stock for you? Cause when i ordered, they were in stock, and they have sent me 3 friggin emails with problems verifying my address, and now the order is frozen until i can go yell at them on monday, so they better not have given my board away. After all, this is their fault, they told me the bank wouldn't verify my address, even though the bank gave me an approval # for the transaction, and i gave that to newegg. Goddamnit, i'm sick of having to deal with this every freakin time i order something online, just cause i have to have it delivered to work cause i'm not home during the day.

This Chaintech certainly has all the basic features I want, socket 939, PCI-exprss, SATA/RAID. I put a Chaintech 9VJL5 motherboard in my wifes pc and it performes just fine for her needs. As much as I'd like SLI I dont NEED it,and cant afford it anyway. so it looks like we have a winner here! I'll "write up" as it were if I have any trouble with it.

So I went to Newegg, and guess what, thier sold out of this moterboard! You guys talk too much! The local computer shop around the corner (literaly) always has Chaintech stuff in there so I'll try ordering it thorugh him and see what happens. I may just have to cool my heals for a while! But it looks like Chaintech has a hit here!

I found this board on ebay (buy it now) for a total of $145.44 (with shipping and insurance)
The seller looks good so I bought one.

Looks like there are still some left:

Link 1

Link 2

Both links are the same seller - they just sell it at a lower price and charge shipping or a higher price with free shipping - they end up being about the same.
