Merry Xmas too all,

Man, it happened the day before Xmas. My Chaintech VNF4 crapped out on me. My rig can power up, but thats about it. I get no POST or any sort of beeping sound. I swap memory, cpu, video card, etc and didnt get any thing. I even removed everything from the mobo(cpu, mem, nic, sound, video card), it power up, BUT I still not get any beeping sound....WTF?
All I see's in the power led it's flashing, I dont know if this meant anything to you guys. oh well, my conclusion came down to me is a dead motherboard(had for 3 weeks ).
What you guys think this could bef?

thanks
ken

You won't get any beeps if you remove the CPU. Try this... remove everything from the case. On something soft and non-conductive, run your motherboard with CPU, HSF, PSU, PC speaker. Clear CMOS with jumper, then power up and see if it beeps. Also, after that insert RAM and power up to see if it beeps. I've encountered some boards that for whatever reason won't beep on RAM errors, but all will beep on video errors (but won't if no RAM).

If still no go, then it can be PSU, motherboard or CPU. At that time you'd have to diagnose by swapping in some spare parts to narrow down the problem.

Hi,

I have tryiedthat also(no CPU and with CPU in the socket). Can it be my video card? I have 6800GS. I hope isn't, 'cause this its only 4 weeks v/c.

EDIT: I have a Thermaltake 480WATT PSU, it has 18A on it, its should be enough. Man, I hope its the PSU, not my video card. I also swap my CPU n Memory to another board it works, but I dont have PCI-E on my other board.

Did you use your PSU with the other motherboard? Assuming you did, you've verified your PSU, CPU and RAM are good, so it is down to video and motherboard. With the known working CPU/RAM/PSU and with the motherboard but no video. Plug in PC speaker (not your regular speakers, but the little speaker in the case) clear CMOS and power on. If the board is fine, you should get a rapid sequence of beeps. If not, then we're looking at the motherboard.

Alright, I joined these forums specifically just to answer this thread and I hope I help anyone out. I personally cannot stress how much frustration went into figuring out why the heck my motherboard wouldn't post. Originally, I fried my board and my power supply, and thought I fried my processor. I ended up buying a new power supply, new motherboard, and new processor in the heat of solving the problem. After all of this, still power but no post, so what the heck?

The solution: The Amp output on the new power supply! I had it set at 235 or whatever it is, and didn't realize I needed it at 130 instead. So, as sad and simple as it may sound, if you know eveything else works, check the switch on the back of your supply box.

After changing it, everything booted perfectly fine, and my system is back to normal. I have built numerous PCs, and I never ran into such a tramatic event. May the computer gods help any of you that run into this complication in the future.

Hi,

Well, in my case I toasted mobo and my video card. I dont if ESD or what, but I RMA mobo and video card.
Anyway, how do you change the Amp out on the PSU? You not referring voltage are you(220 to 110)??
