Still a lot of money for insurance

What I want to know is why New York and Florida residents can't enter? I got this in my e-mail this morning.

It's the 'do-gooder' mentality of NY and Florida. Seems the legislature got their panites in a wad because the 'digital divide' didn't allow 'the poor' to enter online contests....so either they have to offer a way for 'the disadvantaged' to enter, or they can't run the contest in that state. Another of the many reasons to hate lefty, socialistic, do-gooders.

that or the "buy.com people" are afraid to goto NY and FL cuz of the anthrax. oh wait there's nevada and washington now.

nonethless, i don't think any of us can afford the tax if we one, not to mention insurance. we'd prolly have to sell the car just to pay the tax.

As a Florida resident, I see A LOT of contests, etc. which are ineligible in Florida. All I can think of is that the Attorney General or legislature has somehow outlawed these things. Frankly I don't see the point, or necessity of it, but to quote a trite response I got from someone when I first moved here "That's the price we pay for the sunshine".

In the case of Florida's ineligibility I believe that jtw99 is partially correct. I think you need a write-in entry method or something like that along with the internet entry. Aslo Florida requires a cash bond for all prizes over a certain dollar value (I think $5000) to insure that the contest will award the prizes (or forfeit the bond). This was designed in order to protect the elderly from being fleeced by fake contests. I don't know about NY.

You guys fail to understand the revenue they generate by a little "gimmick" like this (or their hopes of, at least).

A Boxter is worth only about ~ $50,000 (off the top of my head).

In hopes of you entering their sweepstakes, they estimate a certain percentage will actually read the rest of the spam mail, visit their site, and buy something. Think of the Boxter or $50,000 as an advertising/investment cost, which is relatively on the low side.

(and $50,000 to a company is pocket change nowadays...
if they advertise it, they can afford it)

I just entered, if I won this Porshe I'd sell it in a heart beat for around $50,000 save about $20,000 for possible taxes, spend $18,000 to buy a new 2002 Toyota Camry LE, now what to do with the other $12,000 I'd spend it on Hot Deals of course!

Imagine just how many laptops that would buy.

I'd buy a Honda Accord coupe before buying a Toyota Solara.

The people that have to handle the contest forms got sick of all the incorrectly filled out forms that came from Florida. You know... stuff like checking the wrong boxes and writing their names in the wrong places.

I have the Boxster S and I only pay 900 dollar a year.

This actually insures cheaper than Mustangs, Camaros and the like since younger people usually drive those and they typically have worse records.
