Change of Seasons have caused my CPU temps to jump 6 deg C

I put together my system about two months ago. My Heat/Sink Fan is a generic but I used AS3 instead of the thermal pad. My temps then (early March, room temp was about high 60s/low 70s) were 48 idle, 51 full load (inside case 25).

I live in NYC and the ambient temps have been really high lately (in the low 90s). With the change of the ambient temps, the temps of my cpu have been 54 idle, 58-59 full load (inside case is mid-30s).

This is BS. I hope that AMDs Clawhammer doesn't have the issues with heat that the Athlon does.

This doesn't look good and I think I will be changing the heatsink fan possibly to the Dr. Thermal/Thermal Integration TI-V77L, once it becomes available at SVC.

I've got an Athlon 1.33 Ghz, with an Alpha PAL8045 + Sunon 80mm lowRPM fan.. and my temperatures recently have spiked from 48 to 54 C. It's toasty in there for sure, but I'm not all that worried about it. I'll have bought a new processor long before this one ever burns out, so it's not a big deal.

Please explain how this is BS?

you went from 51C Load to 59C load, while your Case temps went from 25C to mid 30C.

seems pretty reasonable to me, CPU temps have a direct corellation to case temps.

In addition, its not like you're getting the actual CPU die temps anyways from the onboard socket-thermistor....

I am not sure the correlation between case temps and cpu temps is supposeed to be exactly 1:1, thats why I was so suprised as to the massive spike. A friend of mine (who lives in the city as well) told me that his cpu temp fluctuations due to the season aren't greater than a couple of degrees.... this is much more than just a couple.

BTW, would you have any experience with the Dr. Thermal/Thermal Integration TI-V77L?

My temp also increased since I bought my Xp1700+ couple of month ago., I took one of those duster cans and blew air around my alpha and poof! dust smoke in the air. Afterwards, my cpu temp dropped by 3C!!!

Case and CPU temperature in relation to your room temperature is affected in a scale dependant on your setup. For instance, if you have a low-key case, a case with just enough case flow to bring the temperatures to factory specified maximum at STP, and a stock heatsink, you'll be much closer to a 1:1:1 room/case/CPU temperature relation than a case with 4 Delta EHE's. If a case has exceptional airflow, but the temperatures are barely better than a setup with much less airflow at ~72F room temperature, your case temperatures will scale much better (temperatures will be lower) than the lower CFM case at higher (>90F). Same goes to the relation between case temperature and CPU temperature. So sometimes overkill is only overkill in Winter.

If you're worried about temps so much, perhaps you should purchase an Intel CPU

When you ambient temps go up, so does your CPU's. The only options you have now are to 1) get a better HSF 2) get a better fan 3) turn on your AC.

Mikewarrior and Flowerman are completely correct. It is a direct correlation between ambient > case > heatsink fan temps. I believe conservation of energy rules that one........

I have a P4 1.8A and had it overclocked for a few months and then it got to be 91 degrees out, so I backed if off to 1.8 GHz again. Even then, it usually idles at 33 C and it was up to 41 C on the day it got to 91 out. It really sucks, I can't wait to graduate and get central air. In the main floor of our house it was 82 and the upstairs has three overclocked machines and a old, but very hot, laptop. It must have been between 90-95 up there, which obviously is why my temps were so high. I know this really doesn't mean sh*t, but just thought I would through in my two cents.

I also backed off my P4 from 2.2Ghz back to default 1.6Ghz since it's starting to get hot. It's not like I need all the power anyways.

Probably a good time to check your thermal paste again. I noticed an unusual jump in core temps when the room temp went up about 15 degrees. Here is the link.
