Changing IDE channels on GA-7VRX??

hello,
how do i go about changing my hd's from ide0 to ide1, and my dvd/cdr from ide1 to ide0. is it a hardware or bios thing? dvd won't run on ide1.

how are they physically plugged in?

you probably have 2 ide connectors on the motherboard, and each of them support 2 drives (total of 4 drives) a master and a slave on each channel


the harddrive has be the master on the primary ide channel (primary is ide0)
now you can either set the jumper on the dvd drive as "slave" and hook it to the same cable as the harddrive

or you can set the jumper on the dvd as "master" and put it on the secondary channel (ide1)... if you have more then one optical drive, meaning a dvd and a cdrw or cdrom. then you can put them both on the secondary channel, just make sure one of them has the jumper set as master and the other set as slave (preferable to have a cdrw as master)

yep, i have 2 hd's and 2 optical's. the thing is apparently my type of dvd drive [pioneer 106s] won't run on the ide1 channel on this board. so i'm guessing i can have my system hd on ide0 as master and the dvd as slave. my data hd on ide1 as master and my cdrw as slave. sound feasible?

yup that will work

its usually not recommended to share a channel with both hdd and optical drives... but yeah what you suggest will work


you will need to physically change the jumpers on your drives, and you will need to physically move the cables around (wont need to do anything in bios)

yeah - is it something to do with transfer speeds when sharing?
are there any performance hits? cause apparently i can get this dvd drive to work on my board on ide1 if i change my cpu fsb from 133 to 100? i could then run both opticals off ide1 and boths hdd off ide0.
would one option be better than the other do you think?
