Changing OS question

My present system is a MSI KT3 Ultra 2 main board, with a XP2100+ CPU, not OC'd, and Windows 98SE. After the first of the year, I plan on upgrading to an ASUS A7N8 Deluxe main board and a new hard drive. I want to upgrade the OS to windows XP at that time. I had thought about saving my hard drive data (about 19 GB) with Norton Ghost to CD's. I guess I probably can't re-install this data to the new HD if I change to Windows XP huh?

I believe Norton ghost only works if using same op system to same op system.
It would depend on what kinda data you are wanting to back up if its programs that you can just re-install, dont worry about it,
I usually just copy all my savegames, writing, drawings, pics, updates, e-mail addresses, and any other programs i dl or something, etc. to data disks then just put it all back after a new install.
Other wise programs i just reinstall.

Norton just images the hard drive. I don't think it cares where you put those images.

Buy a new hard drive and install on that. This time to it right....create a small partition for the OS only so you don't lose all your crap everytime you format/upgrade.

Chocoruacal - Are you saying then that you think that I CAN transfer the data? Of course this will only be stuff that I can't re-install.

Norton makes an 'image' of your hard drive, exactly as it is. If you Ghost a one drive to another, everything gets copied over including the MBR. Its not a 'backup' program, in the sense that it won't restore info. It works in DOS. Once you have the hard drive imaged to disc, when you put those images on a new drive it overwrites everything.

Buy a new hard drive.
