We are talking about that he had a regular column at Washington Post where he announced it. I'm guessing Fox put it on as he was a major figure and contributor to their network. Much like Bourdain was to CNN. I don't see anything nefarious with either. It just makes sense as they were both such large figures for each network.

What should Fox have done just buried it? It's major news to their viewers.

If he was on top of his world he would not have killed himself. Likewise because someone doesn't have lots of money or fame doesn't mean they are at the bottom of the world. Equating success with money/fame/etc is one of the biggest causes of misery of our society.

I genuinely don’t understand what empty condolences or condemnations of some random political figure really mean. I’m sorry for him, his family, and his friends, but that shouldn’t mean we can’t call an asshole an asshole.

Bad people die every day and it’s okay to say they were bad. I wouldn’t say that at his funeral or around his friends/family but as far as I can tell they aren’t here.

Krauthammer was also a very widely distributed newspaper editorial columnist. I respect his intellect but very rarely agree with him. As I recall he has been sick for quite a while now.

I didn't watch him regularly, but what I caught (W era) was pretty disappointing intellectually.

He won't be missed from that perspective, as his contributions were negative from what I've seen. None of us are crying over the hundreds of thousands of faceless civilians that have died due to the false assumptions and poor reasoning the neocons perpetuated.

Personally, it's a horrible prognosis. I feel for his family and hope he uses his remaining time to the fullest. Cancer is a terrible disease.

Charles was one of the few even keeled political analysts on television. Started off in the Carter administration in the VA then became one of Mondale's speech writers. Truly an outstanding thinker, articulate and compassionate. He will be missed.

It was a given considering the circumstances. Leftists give no quarter to those they deem to be the opposition. Krauthammer has come to the forefront of the news cycle and they instinctively have to lash out. It's part and parcel of their ideology.

What we have here is a bit of a unique situation in that the man has very little time left to live. Here, it's A-OK to be vile towards a living conservative. Upon death, what is tolerated in life is no longer deemed appropriate. If he had passed away, early on somebody would cross a line, be admonished and the rest of the pack would just stay out of the thread. But this is a free for all. A ding-dong the witch is dead situation (albeit premature) where anyone can say pretty much anything they wish. And they are.

When he passes a new thread will have to be started. That one will be 'more reflective of the values of the organization' or some other such drivel. The new thread may coexist in close proximity to this thread. Uncivilized/civilized. Like it's a switch that can be toggled with both states being totally acceptable. I find the dichotomy of all this interesting.
