Pretty much. Of those, Christmas is the one with the most meaning.Originally posted by: Specop 007

I find myself agreeing with BarneyFife. Scary. Genuinely, though, Halloween has no meaning. It could have, but does not. It is a ritual without purpose.
And Valentines Day? Mothers Day? Fathers Day? Christmas?
EVERy holiday is "without purpose" to someone. Should we just cancel them all? Is it *really* that big of a deal if people celebrate it? Does it affect you if they celebrate it or not?

Condor, DÍa de los Muertos is nothing like us halloween, it is a day of family that have past.
Congratulations your order of Chavez cheerleading uniform and pom pons has been confirmed and will be shipped on the next allowed holiday.
You gonna ship his dunce cap too? Steep, it is a little hard to ignore several million Mexicans in the street celebrating the holiday. Add to that the domestic help we had in the house and my Mexican staff that were very generous in their explanation of anything local. The shame is that Chavez has apparently forgotten that the roots of the holiday are from his civilization. Vendors sell skeletions, bats, cakes, special foods and all sorts of other things on the streets for the day.
Oh yeah, BBC got it wrong too.

Like I said you obviously celebrated with a american slant, Shameful you know so little of others customs even being there for as long as you were.
Give me a break, I have lived on the west coast of over a decade and lationos DO NOT celebrate halloween in the same way as americans. It is a family day (centered around those passed on) not one of scariness.
You are just plain wrong, or the "help" were making you feel comfortable and relating to your non-catholic way of celebrating, people tend to not get very in depth with those who would not understand so it is easier to relate your situation to how they would ike to see it to be polite.
Sounds like the "help" was trying to make the beloved patriot feel comfortable and not give him too much to think about, from your posts you are not very good at thinking outside the box, I am sure you would have a brain hemmorage if you were told you were wrong, you come off as that type of guy to stick to your guns regardless if you slamming yourself into a wall over and over.

And you are like a train with no lights but hoping your faith will not lead you off a cliff even though everyone is telling you the bridge is out.
Once again you try to tell these white suburban people about a culture they are ignorant about and they think the american way is all their is in the world becasue they are isolated ignorant twits.
Latinos do NOT celebrate halloween like we do, matter of fact we celebrate our holidays a LOT different then most countries.
Here let me spell it out again for our southeners:
We are not a catholic country nor do we celebrate halloween like catholic nations.
Our country was founded by English which are protestant, and have a much more sinister look at halloween and ancestor worship.

Please, take your ignorance elsewhere...
# It is a holiday with a complex history, and therefore its observance varies quite a bit by region and by degree of urbanization. (Condor was in the BIGGEST CITY IN THE WORLD OF COURSE IT WAS WATERED DOWN FOR HIS CONSUMPTION AS A AMERICAN.)
# It is not a morbid occasion, but rather a festive time.
Protestant America celebrates it as a day of evil and spookiness...
It is a day of ancestor worship for catholic nations.

In other words you admit you know nothing of this and use a personal attack in the face of being wrong, real mature, no wonder your views are so lost do yourself a favor and crank that window of your mind open a bit, the dust and decay coming from your head is making me sneeze.
On a related note I do NOT live on manhattan island, once again you have spouted wrong information that you could have gathered by a sinple click of my profile before shooting your mouth off again, a perfect example.

Eaglekeeper, please open your mind, the whole world is not full of spoonfed W.A.S.P. hiding your head in the sand in a vain hope that you will stay superior to anyone elses culture.
And what of the IRA? I know you all hate to see your idiotic war on terror compared to the confilict. Sucks for you imperialism will never work.
We have freakin 7 people staying on our floor who just woke up who came out here from CA in a band and they laughed their asses off reading this blatent ignorance of catholisism some being straight up mexican.
Passing a message along: Condor and Eaglekeeper are talking : "self-righteous beloved patriot garbage"

I provided you with a link.
the former elite beloved patriot ruling classes traditions of halloween are not native and chavez is trying to break down the damage down by white imperialism over the years.
Not everyone wants american cullture, it has run its course and nothing less then consumerism and worship of the dollar.
I wouldnt mind seeing it go the way of the dodo here also.
