For anyone looking for Photo Paper. This is the cheapest I could find. They are having a 2 for 1 sale now. 200 sheets for $13.xx. I have never used paper from this site before so do not know what the quality is. Use at your own risk.

On my HP 940C, I tried 8.5x11 photo paper here and the colors come out very faded and a little washed. Tried HP paper and things came out bold and vibrant. Just a heads up. Maybe you guys will have better luck.

you need to get manufacturer's paper...that's really it

Yes this applies for Canon, HP, Epson, whatever printers....if you don't believe me...try the two papers side by side lol...

Printer manufactuerer's make a lot of their money on paper and ink...so...

For 4" x 6" sheets, this works out to be approximately $.07 per page. Then, you need to figure in the cost of ink. Personally, for $.19 a print (4" x 6") prints, I'd prefer to have Costco print my digital photos which will be of much higher quality. I'll save my ink for printing text and graphics for presentations.

$0.19 per 4x6 on Fuji film. If yer nice to the Photo gals, they'll have it done within an hour or so. If a guy takes my order, it's always 2+ days...go figure.

I agree.....$0.19 for a real picture vs injet is hard to beat. Only time I do "photo" on my inkjet is when I just want to print a quick pic for some one.....

if you're lucky, u can find quality paper @ staples clearance.

i've found avery, ibm, and kodak photo paper (8x10") 50-pk for $3-5. and they're there every week. this is the industry staples off Azusa on the 60FWY in CA.

I've tried a couple of different brand name papers on my S820 and some looked just awful. The Epson Photo Film (expensive) looked pretty good, but not as good as the Canon paper. If you have a Micro Center near you, I picked up Canon's 4x6" Photo Paper Plus Glossy on sale for $3 per 20 pack last week. It's normally $6. I don't know when the sale ends, but Micro Center's sales usually last a few weeks. They also had a 10' USB 2 cable for $1.99.

The only mix of paper & printer that has ever worked out for me is this new Canon i850 and Epson Matte Photo Paper... This printer does a great job on that paper. Otherwise the Canon 4 x 6 Photo Paper Plus (not that expensive in retrospect either) is the way to go.

Remember that this is not Canon Photo Paper Pro, the "top of the line" Canon paper. If you are looking for less expensive paper,
seriously consider Epson Heavyweight Matte - Now called Epson Enhanced Matte. Buy it in 8.5x11, use QImage pro or similar to print 3x 4x6 per page. 50 sheets is around $8, so 150 4x6 prints for about $8.

If you want glossy, consider Office Depot Premium Photo Pro (or similar name, I could be off). Look for coupon and get 200 sheets for about $20.

Cheers!

Costco? WOW! You mean I can actually go and have photos developed by someone else? When did this new technology arise? Gee, I bet in the future, we will be able to get all our photos developed in the local drugstore! Now I'm kicking myself for spending $1000 on digital cameras and photo printers. Who could have guessed.....

there is a good article on PCworld jan 2003 about the paper and type of inks on the inkjet printers.
If iam not mistanken.
Epson and Lexmar uses DYE ink and better with polymer coated paper
Canon uses pigmented ink and better with porous paper
Hp uses black pigmented ink and the colors are dye ink.
So depending what printer your have, you should choose the right type of paper

I bought the Fry's special. .99 cents for 20 8x11. Used on D135 and the quality is pretty good. Just bought some Hp paper (free after rebate with 2 cartridge purchase) and I will try to see the difference

For those of you looking for papers, try redriverpaper.com. I have purchased their 4x6 cut sheets and the quality I get from my epson photo 820 is amazing. The prints I do myself are much better than the "photo quality" prints produced by shutterfly.

They have sampler packs of their papers so you can try them out to find out the best paper for your printer.

One other thing to consider. If there is any truth to what the manufactures say, the longest print life can be obtained from using a combination of their ink and paper. Canon claims 25 years for prints from the S820, (and others), and their supplies.
From Canon: * Based on Canon Inc. studies conducted using Canon Photo Paper Pro, under glass, utilizing industry standard lighting conditions and controlled temperature and humidity. Results may vary based on individual environmental factors. See for details.www.usa.canon.com/consumer/lightfast

I have a Canon i320 and I just tried the glossy 4x6 distributed from various vendors on Flebay under the moniker "Discount Paper". I got 100 for 6.99 and for the most part the output is anywhere from Acceptable to very disappointing depending on the subject matter. This paper seems especially poor at flesh reproduction, not sure why... Ultra Glossy my ass! The paper is very thin (even thinner than the CANON stuff -- Does this mean anything? Or is it all about the Finish??

I have gotten much better results from the 5 pack of CANON 4X6 Glossy sampler pack that was included with my printer when I got it. I have also gotten great results from the heavy LB Glossy Office Depot brand photo paper, but it sure does cost a bit (use a coupon if ya got em).

I am reallly disappointed because I was trying to get my per print cost down to .07 cents (not including ink)....

So for best output you can't go wrong with the manufacturer or the Office Depot paper.

Anyone know of any better stuff?

I believe I read that some of the newer HP photo printers detect HP photo paper, and will only print at the highest quality mode on HP paper. This would unfairly disadvantage other quality inkjet papers, but all's fair in business and war I suppose.

I haven't gone to Fry's in ages, but now that pete777 mentioned it, I'll keep an eye out on the 99 cent GQ paper. This weekend, SoCal Fry's has "BIP" 20-pack for $2 (limit 1), which isn't good enough to bring me into their store. They also have Kodak 25-pack for $5, but that's high for my tastes.

yeah on my new hp 555 ( I think that's the model ), the 4800dpi is unavailable until you select HP Photo paper for the type of paper.

I don't understand why people spend money on 4 X 6 paper, when 8 X 11 standard size photo paper is way cheaper overall. I use a paper cutter and I can trim the photo to whatever size I want. If you are using Windows XP there is a good photo printing program built in that will print four different photos per sheet, or wallet size, or 5 X 7, or even mini-wallet size. If you are looking for a cheap way to put the pictures in a photo album, buy a $1 binder at Office Depot and a cheap box of plastic "sheet protectors."

We all know your right ...but its a matter of convience. I have tried it both ways and sometimes I just wanna shoot of some quick photos and I dont' wanna hand them to a friend and say "Hey just cut em down" or I just don't have the time to do so. Also YOu always have to watch not cutting into the borders..... SO I would gladly pay a reasonable premium to be able to do it this way. No one say one way is better than the next ....

Can't you just select 4800 dpi anyway and then print on your paper of choice?
