Now that the prices of these, "economy class" SSD are in a free fall, everyday there is a new lower price it seems. Post your deals here

4/24 - Mushkin Enhanced Chronos 480GB - $160

***DEAD***

4/20 - Crucial BX100 500GB - $160 AR ($20 MIR) + tax, FS today only
You can get additional $10 off with anniversary coupon, if you haven't already used it. (which I did ) But still seems very tempting! Big fan of crucial.
AT review Looks impressive...
Sequential Read - 535MB/s
Sequential Write - 450MB/s
4KB Random Read - 90K IOPS
4KB Random Write - 70K IOPS

On the TigerDirect website and on the rebate website it is saying "Limit (2) TWO rebates per person, billing address, company, or household." I think this is the first time I've seen this. Does that mean you can fill out and send 2 rebates and then get $40 back? That would make it quite the deal...

EDIT:
On second thought I'm guessing this means if you buy 2 SSDs then you can send in 2 rebates and if you buy 3 SSDs you can still only use 2 rebates.

Great deal and bad luck for me. I purchased one on 4/17 for $189.99 and no rebate. I'll probably get the $10 using price protection but I'm screwed on the rebate. I'll probably return it as the shipping won't be $20, which is the rebate amount.

Talk to them first. They may be willing to work something out so they don't have to hassle with a return. They might do the $10 coupon and maybe half the rebate amount as store credit. Or half and half for a total of $15, credited back.

Just be polite and reasonable, I usually have good luck that way (with any store).

Yes I was thinking about that. And you're totally on point about being polite and reasonable. It's only $20 but worth a shot to see if they'll provide some consideration.

I just got off the phone with Tiger Direct. The sales representative was very nice. They were able to do the $10 credit for the drop in price (price protection) but couldn't do anything about the rebate. I could have cancelled the order and simply refused delivery the representative told me and reordered the item within the rebate period. But I also used a $10 coupon TG has sent me and that can't be put back on my account according to the rep. They are generated internally somehow and he can't control it. Anyway refusing the shipment and going through the rebate process would have only saved me $10 so I'm just going to roll with the current order. Oh well, just unlucky on my order date. It's a good deal right now, especially if you've been saving one of those TG $10 off $100 or more coupons because you'd end up at $150 for the drive.

I got the BX100 500gb a couple of weeks ago and it has been working great. I don't too much extreme with it but going from 128 to 500 has been great for my Steam library.

Fwiw, I got it from Ncix when it was $175, but it also came with a $20 gift card as I was a new customer. So while it is a GC rather than a rebate, I imagine I'll order something from them at some point in the future. I think they run the $20 GC for new customers almost every month, so for those who'd be comfortable with the GC rather than a rebate its something to consider when/if the Ncix retail price is good.

I just got the BX100 500GB cloned and running in my Lenovo t450s laptop. I was expecting a little snappier performance actually. It feels a little slower opening apps than the Intel 330 240GB on my 4770k desktop system. I guess the faster memory subsystem and compute of the 4770k make a difference in opening apps because I'm pretty sure the BX100 is faster than my Intel 330 in every measurable way right?

In this case I don't think it's the SSD performance ceiling I'm hitting it more seems like the 5200u and memory subsystem are the new bottleneck since I installed the SSD. As I wrote above performance with my slower Intel SSD is better and the only thing that makes sense is the 4770k and memory are faster.

Opening Coreldraw X5 is where I first noticed a difference.

You're not comparing 2 SSDs with zero other variables, so it's pretty much invalid. The point of the linked article is that on the same system for typical workloads there is a vanishingly small difference between SSDs that in benchmarks would show vast differences.

I'm agreeing with you. The SSD is not the bottleneck. SSD from 3 years ago "feels" faster than the current one. It's the rest of the system that appears to be the bottleneck not the SSD.

Wondering, are you actually running in AHCI if you cloned the drive? 'Course I dunno what if anything your laptop supports, but you might be stuck in IDE mode. There is a registry "hack" to enable AHCI after the fact as long as your BIOS supports it. Worth looking into if you haven't yet.

It's a brand new Broadwell based laptop. And yes it's running ACHI. AS SSD score is 1445. Just ran it.
