Cheap 60GXPs, if you wanna risk it

That's way cheaper than the $130 average for the 40GB 60GXP. I'm having my doubts when the discount is big!!!

As good prices as these, harddrives are VERY important to the computer. It's ALOT MORE trouble than its worth getting a cheap HD.

Actually, the 40GB model is now hitting the $110-$115 price range (see NewEgg, for example). These prices are still $20 lower ... at least!

If only that 4-port ATA-100 Escalade RAID card was out ...

I actually bought from these guys about a year ago. I ordered a bunch of parts for a system including a FK case. The case never came. I had to call them and ask them to ship the case afterwards - which they did, but only after I got a little angry with the CSR. I don't remember the name of the guy I spoke too, but if seemed very arrogant and annoyed at the fact that I called him to complain about a missing case. Nevertheless, I did get all the parts I asked for in working order and with decent packaging. Its an average place to buy, but there is some risk....I dunno, maybe times have changed for them...

The 60gxp are a new model, it would be hard to believe there refurbs. Plus don't they have to state that by law if it's a refurb ?

Err... the 60GXPs use 20GB platters, am I not correct? Wouldn't that make it difficult to come up with 30GB drives?

The 30GB drives use 2 platters for a total of 4 sides, 10GB each. To get 30GB instead of 40GB, they simply don't install a head for one of the platter sides. It's more cost effective this way than creating a new design.

with a 2.8 on resellerratings how can you people even *debate* if this is a good deal or not? any company with less than a 5.5 should not get a post here as a hot deal because they arent. anyone that bothers to order this only deserves what they get (which in this case might very probably be nothing at all)

While I understand your perspective (hey, I haven't purchased yet), but you have to look at *WHY* the ratings are the way they are. If the prices are great and the shipping is decent, you'll only have a problem if the merchandise is bad or you never get it. And only at that point would you have to deal with customer service (this place's weakest link?). But if everything works as expected, would your rating be properly weighed against negative feedback (oh, I've had to return 5 motherboards and CPUs because they won't overclock as high as I want them too).

And never forget about the power of Price Matching (with AMEX Blue Best Value Guarantee or whatnot)....

You guys should also consider that: People usually don't come online to a site to say how good a company is, they really only come on to say if a company is bad...

You're kiddin me, right? Unless those were guaranteed to overclock, I think that's being a jerk. I hope you at least had to pay some restocking fees...

Looks like there is a price error on the 40gig. It's outta stock and the price has gone up to $116.

Verse4: how does pricematching with an amex blue work? Would i be able to buy the GXP at another store and pricematch it with this one using an amex?

Matt-

I was being sarcastic about what I'm sure some folks here have attempted ... and will return merchandise when it won't work. Those folks eventually cause everyone else to suffer.

All of the other models are still priced low.

actually i have to say thats a good point about pricematching, but about the ratings, well i cant say i can totally agree about that. I absolutely agree that most people only leave a comment with a bad experience, but then you have to realise that there are lots of other companies out there with 5+ ratings, so its hard to explain that based on the assumption that people will only leave a rating if they are annoyed. also, while some people do screw the system like you mention, most people do not and post honest experiences. so overall, you are playing with fire if you order from one of these sorts of companies, even if the price is good

Eh, how does the amex blue pricematching work? If you buy from another store, you can pricematch with this store?

Those guys are asian thiefs, the CS is horrible.. bought a motherboard form they long time ago, it was defective and they did not wanna replace it, it took my credit card reps to fight them out..
Be careful, though Hard drive is a safer option..

Ya, Ive been mightily tempted also. Pricewatch shows them as United Distribution or something, then flips you to Altima.

Its been my experience with flake vendors, is that if things go well, things go well, but if they go bad, they go really bad.

I would agree these are prob pulls for bigger HDD's. They gotta have SOME angle to beat Newegg.

Is the potential aggravation worth $20, thats the question.
