what is a good configuration for an 800FSB p4 system, or is that not possible on an approx. $600-700 budget for gaming?
i see it that most of the 2.4C's are around 200 and mobo (865) is about 175, and thats more than half, so is an 800FSB gaming rig out of this budget?

thanks

btw, are prices expected to drop anytime soon or should i get another 1700+ t-bred B rig?
and how exactly does the newegg's OEM of Windows XP SP1 differ from the "retail" version except without all the useless packaging?

i would have to say i couldn't comfortably make a system for that price range... however add another $200 and you have it easy... sorry... (if you skimped on everything you migh be able to tho... but what is the point then.)
the price on a 1700+ shouldn't drop significantly any time soon
an oem version of windows can only be sold with new computers. in other words you just have to buy some hardware with it so that you are building a "new" computer... it is a stupid MS policy that only rips off joe regular who doesn't know crap when he goes into bestbuy to waste his money...

Have you considered more of a bare-bones upgrade? You know, keep your old drives, and whatever else is still good for now.

Just upgrade the motherboard, CPU, RAM, and the Video for now, and maybe the case and power supply. Then you can upgrade the rest as you have the funds.

Or does this need to be a new, complete system?

Ehhh, save yourself almost $100 and get the P4 2.4C 800fsb Retail and the Abit IS7-E mobo

Either save the $$ or upgrade your RAM to 2x 512 (still taking advantage of dual channel ddr on the Abit mobo) and/or get a nicer Antec case or something. Good luck.

Haha, I knew I was missing something.

Well, if we went with deuce24's plan, we could use that 100 saved towards a FX5200?

Yeah, let's hobble his speedy P4 800FSB with a low-end video card.
Surely we can come up with something faster for not too much more cash?

for 600 bux I would highly reccomend a 1700 dlt3c, they overclock to 2.2 ghz consistenly and you can set up a system for $700 including radeon 9500 easily, I'm building one for a friend.

BTW, when buys a case with PSU for $55, be sure to check the brand of PSU, you dont want to be running a gaming machine with a sub par psu.

yea, that's basically the system i have right now, wanted to see if i could get an 800FSB for that, though i may be assuming too much that a 2.4C wil beat my 2.2 athlon
and it does need to be entirely new, except maybe HD
