I did a onrebate for the hanns-g LCD back in May. I didn't have any problems with them. I actually liked their way of doing it, ie, they sent me an email telling me they got my rebate forms, then later when they were sending out the check they sent me an email letting me know. I was very worried because I believe the company is owned by the same person as TD.
How much better is a AMD Athlon 64 3300 over an AMD Athlon XP 2600? This may be to cheap to pass up.

Hmmm if I was looking for a really cheap CPU I would probably jump on this since it is an On-Rebate. I kinda like On-Rebate as they have the option to move with PayPal instead of a snail mailed check. I hate PayPal, but in this case it is more convenient and there is a chance of it getting to you before 8 weeks.
Last time I did an On-Rebate with an Ultra Product (Probably through raido shack), the PayPal payment was sent to me before 4 weeks went by.

I have some other pending On-Rebates and I wonder if it will be sent to me before that 8 week deal.

I think I'll jump just so I can prove that you can get TD rebates

OK, I am a little confused about these two processors. The first one , which is a 3300+ A64 with 256KB cache doesn't seem to exist on the AMD website. AMD CPU specs There is no 3300+ A64, only a 3300+ Sempron, plus AFAIK, all A64 Athlons have either 512KB or 1MB of L2 cache. At least that what shows on AMD website. Anybody have any views on this? Think this might be a 64 bit Sempron instead? There were a few models on Sempron with 256 KB of L2 cache but only one with the 0.13 micron process, and that was 3100+ at 1800 MHz. All the other Semprons with 256KB of L2 cache were of the 90nm mfg process. This is all according to the AMD website, so maybe these CPU were made for other manufacturers that are not ordinarily seen at other vendors. Kind of like the Sempron 939 CPU that was made for HP if I remember correctly.

Now the second processor is an Athlon A64 3400+ at 2.2GHz with 1MB cache with the 0.13 micron mfg. I would assume this is a Newcastle core because of the 0.13 micron mfg? But.... when I look up the 3400+ Newcastle at Newegg, it has 2.4GHz and 512KB L2 cache with 0.13 micron mfg. 3400+ at Newegg The CPU seems to exist, looking from AMD CPU specs on the website. AMD CPU specs here. As a matter of fact it shows two processors with stepping C0 and CG. The 800MHz bus speed on TD's website must be a mistake.

At the AMD website, the 3400 with 512 L2 at 2.4 GHz with CG stepping is equal to the 2.2 GHz with 1MB of L2 with stepping CG or C0.

3300+ is just chopped up. Ghetto like.

Actually there was another, earlier thread to this one, but it had a higher price, but there is some info on the 3400+ CPU there. Here's the thread Earlier TD Athlon A couple people reported getting a second gereration Clawhammer instead on a Newcastle. 2.2GHz with 1MB L2 instead of 2.4 GHz with 512 L2.

Got my first chip, the Athlon64 3400 from Tigerdirect.
ADA3400AEP5AR
CAAZC 0515FPBW
A second generation Clawhammer core with 1Mb cache at 2.2GHz, about a year old.
It was supposed to be a Newcastle core with 512Mb cache at 2.4Ghz.
Should be fun to play with. The part numbers are ok for the rebate.

I got the same thing... what's funny is that it even says 512kb cache, but when I check that part number (the one on the processor itself - same as what you have) it's clearly 1mb cache. The part # checks out for the rebate though so that's all I care about.

A bit bummed that they dropped the price $10 so now it's $40 for the 3400+

This might be like the Athlon XP 2900+'s that TD used to sell. They were sold by AMD only to Compaq, and probably picked up as surplus by TD.

Maybe, I've got this wrong, but it looks like just to get the rebate form, you have to go through a detailed registration procedure at the onrebate.com web site. Then, at some undefined time in the future, they email you the rebate form, which you then fill out and mail in and wait (at least) eight weeks to actually get the rebate.

It's that email part that makes it a scam. *Rhetorical question alert* Why don't they just give you a link at the web site to a pdf that you can download and print out? Why doesn't TD just link to the pdf?

Answer: Delays and mistakes. "Oh, you didn't receive our email? Please check your spam filter settings." Can I apply again? "No, we only allow one application per amiling address." Etc. ad nauseum.

*Satire alert* How wonderful - just what we needed! A new way to make rebates even more complicated.

I think they add these extra steps, in part, to thin out the number of rebate claims. So far all have been good, except the one time I didn't use their address label (and had to fax copies).

Once you've registered at OnRebate the forms will auto-populate with your name/address. This is actually very handy for the next time. You get a confirmation code in your email, usually a few seconds after clicking the button to send it. They want a real email and you may get ads but that can be painless is you use something like Endjunk.com to create an address for Tiger on the fly. Finally you print out a form, SIGN IT, add the UPC, receipts, packing lists, AND COPY EVERYTHING before mailing. Lots of places to go wrong, or give up.
EDIT: make sure Bill-To and Ship-To addresses match the rebate address (No PO Boxes).

actually as soon as you finish registering the rebate online, the instruction and reg number are e-mailed to you, from which you can go online to generate the rebate form. It's not as much hassel as it seems, and I have gotten rebates back this way. Compusa also has e-rebates, although their process is simpler.

you go to the onrebate site to fill in your information.
then you print out the rebate submission paper.
you attach the upc/proof of purchase to the paper.
send in paper along with invoice/receipt.

Hmm, they didn't mention an address label. I've had problems with newegg.com. You have to print out an rma label, but the web server is broken and neither my mail client nor my web browser could make sense of the darn thing.

Finally, I stripped the web page code to get at the image, saved it and printed from my own file system. So how many items are there to print out? Seems like it's two or are there more? Are they pdfs or something else? Are they attachments or are they an executable that requires ActiveX?

Excuse me for being suspicious. I've received most of the rebates I've sent for, but I've had to work for them. And I don't have those Windows gizmos where you have to give up control of your computer to print things out. There are coupons that I can't print out, because they don't actually send you the coupon, they take control of your computer and print it out for you.
