Cheap aluminun cases

Just recieved a case from dumpinggoods.com that I thought was worth the money. $16 !!!
It's not a Lan Lia or whatever but 16$ dollars for an aluminum case with a bunch of ports up front and an AMD approved 400 watt power supply isnt bad. It also came with 3- 80mm fans and another fan on the power supply. My grand total with $ 14.10 shipping to Ohio was $ 30.10 . Last time I checked they listed 35 left in stock. They have a couple other aliminum cases by Skyhawk for 15 bucks or so but they don't come with a power supply.
Skyhawk ALP4372D-SL w/power supply is how they list the model I recieved. They shipped quickly but Fedex ground
took 5+ days to get to Ohio.

From the info on this site, it looks like the power supply is rated at 300 W.

The power supply is a Skyhawk SH400A8S. The box the case came in has two power supply choices , 300 w and 400w.
The 400 watt is checked. That coupled with the "400" in the power supply model # leads me to believe that it is a 400watt supply. I haven't tested the output yet but I'm pleased none the less. And looking at the above link they apperently come with the optional fans as well. Hope this helps . Take care

Where did you see that? The standard supply spec'd for the case is 300W continuous output, 330W peak surge. It's not a bad deal, but unless you saw something I didn't, I don't think you can count on more than the minimum from a closeout place.

Be careful when choosing one of these cases. Some of them just have a 60mm exhaust fan in the back, like the one that conehead443 linked. Also, the airflow sucks on these things (the cases with a 60mm fan) unless you have a side panel fan or other plan for airflow. The aluminum is pretty flimsy, the system stayed hot, and they're loud. I'm speaking from experience. I would highly suggest looking into the size of exhaust fan and staying away from 60mm. I tried a 60 to 80 adapter and mounted a bigger fan that way, but it was pretty much worthless and made things louder, not to mention the fact that the exhaust fan and cpu cooler were nearly touching.

If you don't care about any of those things, they do make some pretty cool looking cases. They're also cheap.

Not trying to crap here, just a few things to think about.

Preyhunter could be on to something as far as the cooling goes. Getting air into the case might be a problem.
Starting from the top there is the standard fan for the power supply , 3.05" or not quite 80 mm.
Slightly below and to the right when looking forward from behind is another fan in chute , ( input or output I don't know).
Inside the case is another 3" fan mounted on a funky arm.
There is also another loose fan for mounting wherever you see fit.
Unless the funky fan in the chute is pumping air INTO the case I can see the other fans just blowing hot around.

I'm not married to this case, I just thought it was good deal. The power supply is not an Antec. The case is not a Lan Lia.

Shipping is $41.75 to Austin TX for the case and 4 fans! Comes up as FedEx 2nd day; no option for ground. Kills it for me.

Crowbait I think the important thing about power supplies is not the rated wattage but the amps supplied to the various rails. P4's and Athlon XP's are supplied by the +12 volt rail. Not sure about 64 bit processors but probably the same.

I feel you need 18 amps minimum but 20 -26 amps is much better. Can you tell us what the specs on the ps label indicate?

Beardofdeath, is that true? The processor actually runs on a much lower voltage, like 1.5-1.6v. I thought it depended on the motherboard. Many of the older motherboards, like the ECS K7VTA3, don't use the optional 12v 4-pin square connector, so supply the processor through the ATX connector and regulate the voltage down from to 1.5-1.6v. Others actually have the 4-pin 12v connector, and generate the CPU voltage from there (makes it easier to have a stable voltage for a higher-powered processor).

In on this deal. Was considering a similar $20 case at mwave.com, but shipping was $18 and killed that deal. Picked up this case and the amr modem for $26 total including shipping, great deal if the PSU works out, still a good deal even if I have to replace it. Thanks OP!

I'm in on this too. Been lookin for a cheap case for an new office machine I'm putting together. Couldn't tell it was a 400 watt psu, but heck it's just icing on the cake (spare psu)
