No doubt. What the hell's wrong with you people?

Number of meals you pay for is directly proportional to chick's hotness.

Just dump her and find another girl if you don't like them.

I don't think that sleeping with a guy after the first or second date would be called traditional.

My GF stiffed me with a bill at Cheesecake Factory a few months ago. I always pay the bill, I mean ALWAYS. But come on, it'd be nice if they offered to pay every once in a while. So one day she says that she'll treat for dinner. I said, let's go to Cheesecake factory and she said fine. So we go there and I get a nice meal (hey, I don't have to pay) and she got some dish (I forgot what it was) and then we each got a piece of cheesecake. I just sat back and smiled b/c, hey I didn't have to pay. So after we're done and the bill comes, she says "Do they take checks???" She hadn't brought her debit card.

WORDS CAN NOT DESCRIBE THE ANGER AND FURY THAT WERE COURSING THROUGH MY BODY AT THAT MOMENT

So ended up footing the bill for close to $60 including tip. Fast forward about 4 months. We went to Steak and Shake last weekend and I made her pay. Bill came to $20 so I paid the tip (it's the least I could do). But that still doesn't make up for cheesecake factory...

Nor is expecting a "friend" to pay for a meal, regardless of gender. What's your point? Do you think it's acceptable to assume a male friend is paying for your meal when it's not a date?

I wish my wife was more like that!

My wife would offer to pay a lot of the time before we were married. I had no problem with paying especially when I started earning good money. Now that she earns more than me, I consider her a good investment.

If it's a date, as the OP said it was, then he pays. If a friend invites you to dinner, then the friend pays, regardless of gender, unless other arrangements are made at the time the invitation is made. The obligation to pay or to make other arrangements rests with the person making the invitation. The invitee can accept or decline without any obligation to reciprocate in any fashion, including sex.

Hmm, but when I call my friends and say "lets go get some dinner" they don't assume I'm paying because it's my idea. The assumption is we all pay for our own tickets, why? Because no other arrangments were made, like "I'm buying" or whatever.

The OP also said it was a friend, so that's a bit confusing. Was this a romantic date, or just two friends going out and he's calling it a date for lack of a better word.

You make it sound so formal, can't two people just go out together and pay for their own meals?

I have never heard the idea that whoever invites is paying unless otherwise discussed. The assumption on my part would be the opposite, each would pay their own way unless someone offered.

Anyone else getting that vibe?

Right on, if I ask the girl on a date, i foot the damn bill. No other way.

I agree. I don't even think I'd enjoy it.

Change that around a bit and make the guy a girl, and it may not be traditional, but it sure is fun!!!

That's why you have to be clear up front, and not wait to find out whether your expectations matched the other person's.

tough to tell... apparently this is only a friend that he has no interest in (or does he?).

I agree that if you like the girl enough, you won't care about the money... and it seems like he was ticked after even the 1st date... which should always be the guy's responsibility IMO.

Not saying thank you does get to you after a while though... she must be old school... is she asian ? My aunt told me that they used to be that way... they simply expected this kind of treatment on dates.

My GF is asian and I have to fight with her for everything. She never wants to let me pay! However, she does expect I open doors for her and such!

You support yourself. Let her support herself. Doesn't matter who asked who out. If she doesn't want to be there just as much as you do, its time to move on. The whole paying for the dinner because you asked her out boils down to two possiblities: you're trying to impress her or you're paying for her time.

And both stink.

so much for your only chance at a woman.

When you are paying by the hour, they are expecting dinner picked up as well.

There is contradiction,
You took her out and then wanted her to pay for the bill? You are a true gentleman
