No I am not in junior high school I attend The University of Wisconsin Madison. I?m sorry that in the 1 minuet it took me to type that reply I did not go back and check my spelling and grammar for you. I assumed that I wasn?t getting graded on my post. Plus I?m going to be a mechanical engineer not an English teacher so give me a break.

Quote by dafatha00 ?Because your grammar certainly reflects it.?

Didn?t anybody ever tell you that you shouldn?t start a sentence with because? I think you should review your posts before ridiculing somebody else. Also isn?t that sentence up there not really a sentence but a sentence fragment?

Quote by dafatha00 ?BTW, your comment about sticking 10K into your 67 Camaro and being able to sell it for 40K. *cough*bull sh!t*cough*[/quote]?

Hey I guess that you have never worked on a vehicle in your life let alone restoring a classic 67 Camaro. Well first off I stated that I do all the work myself so that 10 grand that I put in my post is strictly for parts and supplies. I?ll break it down for you.

1967 Camaro RS plus new gm cowl induction hood and inner fenders = 1600 dollars

Wrecked 1999 Camaro SS = 3,000 dollars = 320 horse LS1 engine, Six Speed transmission, aluminum driveshaft, bucket seats, front suspension components, and other miscellaneous parts.

Engine upgrades and exhaust system plus a new clutch = 1,000 dollars

Interior upgrades new carpet custom headliner and door panels done by myself recover Camaro seats = 1,000

17 inch eagle alloys torque thrust II rims plus tires = 1,200 dollars

Paint and supplies = 1,000 dollars

Time for me = free

So the total comes out to 8,800 dollars which leaves 1,200 dollars for anything else I want to put on the car.

Now for a freshly built 67 Camaro with a custom interior and a complete modern drive train, nice wheels, and paint job this would go for about 40,000 dollars or more at the Scottsdale auto auction in Arizona.

So how do you like those apples LOL?

P.S. He dafatha00 get a life.

It's not just a car, it's a lifestyle.

BigPappaBuck - While I agree with most of what you said, I also have to agree with dafatha00 on his opinion of your overestimating the worth of your car. ANY classic street rod that has been modified from stock can immediately drop 1/2 or more off the value of the car. It's that simple. Anybody can build a street machine but to be able to restore a car to factory condition is the hard part. And you NEVER get back out of a car what you dump into it (again, unless it's a factory restoration). I speak from experience.

I had a 1979 Ford F-150 XLT Ranger with a built 400M (350+ HP), built C6 w/high stall torque converter, built 9" rearend, rebuilt suspension and perfect body and paint. The thing would HAUL! I had receipts on the thing easily totaling over $5,000 and had the truck appraised afterwards. Guess what? It came back at $6,500. It was nice enough to make the January 1998 edition of Sport Truck magazine and was picked as one of the Readers Rides trucks that "showcase current trends in sport truck styling and mechanics." I ended up selling it some time later for $5,000 so I lost the initial cost of the truck itself ($2,500 if I remember right). My brother is currently building a 1962 Chevy Impala SS. The stock 409 is going to end up pushing 570HP on pump gas by the time he's done with it. Will it be one of the fastest street legal cars in the area? Yes, most definitely. Does he know that if he ever goes to sell it that he'll end up getting back 1/2 of what he put into it? Yes, most definitely. That's the way it goes.

However, when you talked about the money wasted on these ricers I couldn't agree more. 99% of the cars with non-factory wings, 20" wheels and coffee can sized mufflers are all show and no go. Every single thing added to the cars is for looks only. There are a FEW rare exceptions that I consider acceptable and those are the ones that balance performance and accessories such as the slalom course drivers.

TekDemon was talking about how a souped up 300ZX could walk over most american built cars. That's probably very true. What he forgot to mention is that NONE OF THE RICERS DO THIS! They dump tons of money into sub 2.0 liter four banger Hondas and Toyotas and then swagger around like they own something to be feared. It only makes the rest of us laugh our asses off when one of these things buzzes down the street sounding like an angry mosquito.

If you want to build a street machine, that's one thing. Start with a platform (American or Import) that was already built for performance and go from there. DON'T start with something that is known for its gas mileage more than anything else. You'll end up dumping in twice as much money to get back 1/2 the performance than if you'd started with something worth working on in the first place.

BigPappaBuck - You go to school in Wisconsin but sell cars at an auction in Arizona? You're a little wacky.

LOL.. yo tek man.. where did u get ur 1/4 mile times.. haha.. the wrx running 14.9? haha tahts a laugh.. maybe if its a bad driver.. yea ill give u one thing.. the wrx doesnt handle as good.. it grips cause of awd.. but handling isnt so great.. yea s2000 on a track will be good.. considering u know how to drive it properly.. also the s2000 cost more than a WRX.. also u gotta look at the potential.. the wrx can easily be modified for more hp.. compared to the s2k.. with its high compression.. options are limited and $$..

and for the comment on the 2.0 liter hondas and toyotas.. ull be surprised what toyota's lil 3sgte can do.. and the wrx ej20 is also only a 2.0L.. just to name a few..

Got a question for some of you unbiased folks. My 94 car's exhaust now has a leak. It was the Original exhaust. I was quoted $500 plus from the deal to replace it with a life time warranty. Car has 150,000miles on it already. Now I'm thinking, I can get a cat back OBX or something similar for half the price. Or maybe just go to the junk yard and pull off another used exhaust. Any thoughts on this?

DON'T GO TO THE DEALER. Look up a discount muffler shop in the Yellow pages, and it's best to stay away from Speedy, Midas, etc. Find a local discount shop. I go to one that does great work and have never paid them over $100 yet for any car they've worked on.

Well I was quoted $5500 for parts and Labor. I searched on-line and found OBX cat back for approx $250 and figure how hard is it to install myself. But not sure about adding a cantolope shooter on my car.

Creig Congrats on your truck being in a magazine, but i think that a 67 Camaro RS has a little bit of a higher resale value than a 79 ford Pickup. That truck wasn't even considered a classic till 3 years ago. It sounds like your brothers 1962 Chevy Impala SS will be a nice car when it is done. I don't agree with you that if you modify a car beyond stock that it will take half the value away from the vehicle. My dad has a 1937 Chevy Street Rod if this was a stock car the most it would be appraised at is about 10 grand that is if it is a concourse restoration. My dad?s car has an unfinished interior and it will need a new paint job in the next couple of years. This car was appraised at 14,000 dollars and it's not finished. The only way a stock car is going to be worth more than a tastefully modified vehicle is if it is a super rare car. Such as a 1969 Camaro Yenko which in mint condition would be worth about 175,000 Dollars! I am not joking about this I know my sh!t when it comes to Chevrolets.

No I'm not crazy to sell my car's in Arizona hmmm what would you rather do stay in Wisconsin?s crap weather or road trip to Arizona pulling a classic car that once down there you can drive around in for the week before the auction. Now nobody that has been to Scottsdale will call me crazy there is more money in that town that in the whole state of Wisconsin. (Well maybe not but close considering a 1972 Chevelle LS6 convertible with 20,000 Miles on just went for 150,000 dollars at the auto auction in Scottsdale I don't think my estimate of 40,000 dollars isn't far off. There is so many rich people out there who want a classic car because they drove one in high school or there dad or grandpa had one when they were growing up. They want something that they can just jump in and turn the key and go not something that they have to fix up.

If you don't believe me go to a car show like a super Chevy show or a national event and walk up to the grand champion of the show with a automotive price guide and show him the price for a mint stock car the same year and model as his and tell him you want to buy his car for that price. If you walk away with both of your testicles in tack I will be impressed. Oh yeah my friend just sold his 55 Chevy Belair custom to some rich guy in Minnesota who collects cars for 95,000 dollars and my dad's friend just sold his 33 Cadillac for 75,000 dollars. So 40,000 doesn't sound like that much now does it. Oh yeah both of those cars were far from stock.

I was thumbing through the WSJ this morning and found something that might be of interest to people.

Profit/Loss per vehicle built in North America(2002):

Honda $1661
Nissan $1289
Toyota $1182
GM $337
DaimlerChrysler -$1679
Ford -$1913

I could've sworn I read something on this thread about domestic automakers bailing out troubled asian and european automakers (Mazda, Volvo, Jag, etc).

I guess trying to buy marketshare just isn't cutting it for the American automakers when they can't even hold their ground on their own soil (or at least North America).
