I like the Tostitos restaurant style medium, but Id rather not have to spend $2+ for a "small" jar of it. Where can I get similar salsa in larger quantity, for a good price?

Here on the East coast, I found some great salsa at my grocery store in the refrigerated section. Santa Barbara salsa comes in a nice-sized container (approx 24 oz.) and runs about $2.50. I thought the taste was quite good for grocery strore salsa.

Step 1: Go to Mexican restaurant that gives you free chips and salsa
Step 2: Pour bowl of salsa into tupperware in girlfriend's purse
Step 3: Repeat step 2
Step 4:
Step 5: Profit

What grocery store was it?

Any recommendations for a place that is in the Raleigh area?

Kroger brand in the same style jar as the Tostitos salsa is good - Sam's choice is cheap & OK too.

I've just found it in my local Wash, DC grocery. It's not a national chain. Also, another suggestion might be Trader Joes - if you have one near you. I've never tried their salsa, but their spicy black bean dip is some of the best bean dip I've had out of a jar - and the price is right: $1.69 or so.

I guess I should look into trying their salsa to see if it's good or not.

make some - you can put exactly what you want into it. Farmer's markets would be a good place to buy the fresh ingredients.

I usually get the Old Dutch brand restaurant style "hot" then add white peper (lots), garlic powder, and salt. Only way I have round to get hot salsa here in town.

I think I've found a solution for you. Wal-Mart sells the Sam's Choice brand of salsa. A 16 oz. container is only $1.39. A 16 oz. container of Tostitos salsa runs $2.79 at Wal-Mart.

The taste of the Sam's Choice salsa isn't too bad - and the price is right. Plus, you can find it at any Wal-Mart.

basically. but squeeze the water and seeds out of the tomato first. and don't add water unless it really needs it

Charlotte should have a large enough Mexican population that it will have a produce market... Got there and peruse the Deli case, it's likely they will have fresh salsa, verde and pico de gallo.(sp?)

check your local grocery store for their own brand of pre-made salsa or local brands. HEB has some good stuff!

I found Santa Barbara salsa at my local Costco this evening. 48oz. for only $4.98.

I should mention that this stuff is kept in the refrigerated section of the store and not on the shelves by the Tostitos brand of salsa.

blech!~( Safeway/Von's makes the best grocery store salsa...all different kinds too! Sometimes on sale 2 for $4. Garlic lovers and chipotle are the best imo.
