Cheap Cendyne CDRW & DVDRW+ @ OfficeMax

I went into OfficeMax Tuesday night where I live (in Louisiana) and on their sale table near the registers, they had retail packaged Cendyne 48x12x48 CDRW (beige) for $19.00 and Cendyne 4x DVDRW+ for $49.00. Cendyne did go belly up so don't expect any support from them, but if it doesn't work, just bring it back to OfficeMax. Probably not the best quality, but for the price with no hassle for rebates, it's not bad either. I've used several of the CDRW's in computers I built for other people with no problems, but I can't speak for the DVDRW+. Try your local store to see if these clearance items are available.

My local store had 7 CDRW's and 3 DVDRW's all retailed boxed and sealed. They very well may be stock that was misplaced in that store or a warehouse somewhere. The two people I talked to knew absolutely nothing about them.

Cendyne is very difficult with their rebates. Had to go back to Office Max three times before Cendyne finally mailed the rebate. Beware! Also I think I read some where that they went out of business, better check on that before buying one. Out of business means no rebates honored afaik.

Hey guys,
These Cendynes are sold as is and no exchange or return. That is why they are clearances. I have added more on the list.

Cendyne drives can be almost anything. They can be LiteON, but certainly not all are. Others are <IMO> garbage </IMO> from the likes of BENQ or Optorite. My 48x12x48 never worked right, coasters and CRC errors on final discs, even when burning at 16x. Unreliable junk. That's not to say that all Cendyne drives are like that, but also not all are LiteONs.

I'd say considering that the company is out of business now. I had a few rebates out when they went under and it was nice for the store's where I bought the drives to step in and pay my rebates. It was nearly $100 worth, so I was pretty happy that I didn't get stiffed.

I saw some at my local OM, but the prices weren't good enough IMO. It's hard to pay $50 for a 4x dvdrw drive from a company that no longer exists when you run into a deal for $20 after rebate on a Pacific Digital 8x drive that happens to be a Liteon. That was a killer 1 day deal btw..

How can you tell if it's a rebadged Lite-On? Is there anything to indicate this on the outside of the box so we don't have to buy, open, and return if it's not?

I stopped by OM today to get some shipping supplies and noticed a CenDyne 4x DVD+R/RW on the front table for $49.00. It was in a plain brown box. Well I opened it up to see what drive was inside and it was an NEC MultiSpin ND-1300A which is actually a 4x DVD+-R/RW. I couldn't resist buying it

My store is located in Lake Charles, LA. I just called to make sure I had some type of warranty since they were "Clearance" items and Cendyne was out of business. They told me that all electronic clearance items have 14 day warranty. Just thought I'd add that info.

Not true. Only the ones marked that way can't be returned/exchanged. Yes, the store Mgr told me this.

usernamemax20charact, look at the model number on the bottom of the sticker. If it's starts with LTR it's a Lite-on. Most of the ones I've seen AREN'T Lite-ons.

Wow, talk about not reading the first post!

Thanks for the deal... I wish I had a closer OM to me, not quite worth the drive, but I have a friend who needs a dvd burner.

I went tonight to OM in Van Nuys, and got the same ND-1300A for $49.00 which was suppose to be an ND-1100a according to the Box.

Great deal indeed. It even came with a blank DVD+RW to play with.. hehe

When i went to the OM there was 3 DVD+RW burners at the front table, along with various 52x CD-RW burners aswell for $19.00ea..

Do you guys really think $49 for a 4x dual format burner is really worth it especially when you can get an 8x for alittle more? Granted you might have to deal with a rebate but in the end it's only a little more money.

Yeah, it's worth it. 8x burners are still nearly twice as much and it's very hard to find media that will burn at 8x speeds. These NEC drives are quality parts and they still go for about $100.

Not true! You'll notice a couple threads here with the much more highly rated 2500 NEC 8X +- burners for under $100 shipped and some oem's were recently going as low as $70 after a $30 to $40 mir. IMHO, older 4x technology should go for less than $50, especially if being clearanced.

I agree, and that's why I didn't pick one up at my OM last night, even though they had a bunch. If they were $29, I would have gotten a couple.
