Computer Geeks has the removable IDE drive enclosures for about $10. They aren't USB but their fast and very handy when you want to move some multi-GB DVD video files around. I put one in every PC I build.

I am looking like an external drive for my notebook. This 80GB is dirt cheap & is of top quality. I saw once from IWILL for $35 + s&H from newegg.
actually FRY's has it. So, I think we can find it any of the stores around around 30-40. I decided to buy WD 80GB for 50, so portable becomes less than $100. LOL.
Bought one here. $31 Works great! Shipping was quick and FREE. One thing I've noticed is that all 3.5/5.5 usb enclosures require you to plug it into an additional power source. However notebook drive enclosures don't have the same requirements and run directly off the usb port.
