Paying $183.9 for regular UL here in South GA. today. Getting at that price because my job involves some travel. It's over $1.90 in my home town now. So let's go take over some Middle Eastern country and we'll get gas on the cheap.

Gas was around $2.10/gal in town. My car gets around 24mpg or so. Good enough for me compared to my last gas guzzling vehicles which never ever even made it to 20mpg. Still took OVER $30 to fill it. I was shaking my head once it went past $25, then $30.

If you people are gonna blame anyone blame opec. They are the ones that control the price of oil not the companys that refine it. And for the people who say they have water in there gas they are mistakin. But thats not to say it dosnt happen. If it does the gas station that has sold you the gas is liable for the repairs to your cars. The other factor to gas prices is the refining process everyyear the epa raises the bar on it. If you live in a city where they have these strick rules like Chicago Phoniox California and other major citys your gonna pay more for gas

Maybe then people with gas guzzling trucks/suvs/HOT RODS... will finally trade in those POS autos for more efficient cars that make 35miles a gallon. Punks are still on the road, revving up their engines, wasting gas. I still see it, where someone pulls up at a stop light with a Corvette, Firebird, or other gas guzzler, and then they waste gas by taking off fast.

Bring on....Propane, Natural Gas, fuel-cell, or all-electric small hybrid cars!

although i completely agree with u, i dont think the oil alternatives will become "mainstream" anytime soon cuz
a) people are reluctant to change
b) alternative engines wont be as powerful as combustion engines...and macho americans like their big V8s and v10 and 8000 lbs hummers
c) oil companies will do ANYTHING to stay a monopoly.....if that means taking out the alternative fuel companies. oil companies have a lot of lobbying power...and they will lobby and greedy politicians will find ways to keep oil in business

in the end, the average american suffers. sad, but thats the truth

I did not even know that costco has gas stations too.

Go to the new Mobil station on the corner of hempstead tpk & newbridge road. They just opened a few weeks ago & are having a gas "sale".

Thanks for the links everybody -

Don't forget to use your AAA VISA for an extra 5% off all gas purchases at the pump. Thats about 11 ti 12 cents off at todays prices. Doesnt work at Costco since they only take AmEx.

Now that is something worth looking into!

I get 25mpg in Bessie, my '97 chevy s-10 4 banger with 130k miles on it (PAID FOR!). I have seen the lines at costco for gas, and I would not wait even 15 minutes to save 5 cents per gallon. Bessie takes about 15 gallons, so that would save me .75 cents. My time is worth more than $3.00/hour. Now, if I was gonna save $2.00 - $3.00 per tank, I might think more seriously about waiting in line at costco - but that would take at least a 40 gallon tank.

The funny thing is there is probably someone sitting in line for 15 minutes with their car idling while they wait to save $1.00 they are spending $1.00. LOL

When they come up with a way to strap 4 of your tree hugging rides to the undercarriage of my Supercharged '02 Ford Harley Davidson F150 so that I can ride on top of them I'll consider buying them. Otherwise, I'll stick with my 10 mpg "gas guzzling truck/hot rod". I pay for the gas, so lay off. It's not like I'm getting it for free and you're footing the bill. If it wasn't for the hybrid cars with a top speed of 50 mph downhill with a strong tailwind getting in my way, I'd be able to save more gas driving at a more efficient speed.

It's worth it to me to pay $40 a tank twice a week to actually "enjoy" driving, not shoehorn myself into a clown car.

Very nice to be a bicycle commuter with these gas prices. I laugh at all the drivers...again and again...the bigger the car, the more laughter.

Today I filled up my Altima. It was one of those older style pumps where there was one nozzle for each grade of gas. I grabbed the one on the left thinking it was regular. Good thing I looked cuz it was the plus grade!!! The bastages ordered the nozzles wierd it went 89, 91, 87. I am sure that people dont look and put in the 89 or 91 grade thinking they are filling up with 87 or 89 and spend more money. I was like wtf? I was pissed, they almost got me.:|

Actually, it does affect me when you drive a POS 10mpg gas guzzler. It make my gas more expensive, and pollutes my air more. Also, the most effiecient speed for almost any vehicle to drive at is between 50-60 mph (and hybrids can go that fast) so they are actually keeping you more efficient...

Thankfully, basic medical supplies are still cheap. Please run to the nearest pharmacy and patch up that bleeding heart. You're getting blood all over my rug. If you want $4-5/gallon (or litre, whatever), move to Europe...please.

BAMAVOO - Since when do you think Walmart has started refining oil into gasoline? Cripes...think about what you believe...do you think it's up to thte individual pumping location to decide what additives get put in their gasoline?

Unforgiven - So Arco and BP have figured out a way to water down their gas and consistently get away with it? What - Exxon and Sunoco are too stupid to figure out how to do it too? Another urban legend...

Read facts about gas prices

A few pieces of good info from this site:

The profit margins of oil and natural gas companies increased 0.6 percent to 6.9 percent in the first quarter of 2004 compared to fourth quarter of 2003. Over the same period, the average profit margin for all U.S. industry increased 0.8 percent to 7.5 percent. Many industries earned better returns in the first quarter than the oil and natural gas industry.

The cost of gasoline has gone up primarily because refiners are paying considerably more for crude oil, the principal cost component of a gallon of gasoline, and because gasoline markets are tight. Crude oil prices are the highest since the start of the war in Iraq in March of 2003 because worldwide supplies are tight. Today a barrel of crude oil is selling at more than $41, a new high. This is $15 a barrel higher, or 37 cents per gallon higher than it was at this time last year. The retail price of gasoline also 45 cents more per gallon today than last year, averaging $1.98 per gallon.

Now don't go trying to inject facts into any populist discussion fueled by misguided frustration and base appeal to emotion. Don't you know that oil companies are evil so its okay to blame them without regard to pesky things like facts?

Its really quite amazing how the 'oil company conspiracy' has set so strongly into the feeble minds of the masses. My father is no exception. If the price of gas goes up, the oil companies are "price gouging". If the price of gas doesn't fall, the oil companies are "price gouging". If the price of gas falls to record lows, the oil companies are somehow making more profit than ever.

One of the unfortunate consequences of being an union member for 40 years - independent thought is completely replaced by indoctrination and brainwashing. All your brain are belong to us.

Friends don't let friends join unions.

I didn't mean more gas efficent. I meant more efficent for me to get where I'm going

Also, my "POS" gas guzzler passes the same emmisions tests that your "hybrid" does.
