Cheap Hong Kong VCD movies!

I found this site when I was looking for a place online to get some new Hong Kong vcd movies. It is www.av89.com , they sell newly release movies for $8.89 and those not so new one for $4.89 and they have a flat rate shipping of $6.89 by UPS regardless of order size. I think they are pretty cheap in comparison to some other online places like yesasia.

seems like a great deal if you are into chinese movies... or am I missing something. BTW, can anybody vouch for the quality of the VCDs sold by places such as this. I can get vhs this cheap, if it's not close to DVD quality then what is the point?

Don't know about these movies, but I just bought the licensed Star Wars trilogy and Back to the Future trilogy from eurekamovies.com in Malaysia. They provided EXCELLENT customer service and I got them within a week. The cost was about $7 each shipped.

The quality of VCDs in my opinion was very good--at least as good as VHS. I'm running them on a 32" Sony TV through a Toshiba DVD player and I'm getting rid of my VHS tapes of the same since the VCDs are so good. You hear about pixilizing and such, but until they come out on DVD, VCD is the best alternative if you want legal versions.

While the Malaysian VCDs are legal, they are also heavily censored.
I'd like to find an inexpensive source of legal, uncensored VCDs.

Wait, do these movies come on one disc? If so that's cool, but the last thing wanna be doing s switching CDs in the middle of a movie.. This isn't 1983 you know...

bought some HK TV Series vcds ... good quality ... surprised at the packaging as well
and the delivery was very fast

I will think most movie in 2 Video CD format because you can only put so many minutes in one.

Yes, you are correct. Most VCD movies come on 2 CDs. The VCD MPEG-1 format takes a little more room than audio, so, a typical 74 or 80 min CD can hold about 60 mins of a VCD movie. Some VCD movies even come on 3 CDs. Quality is not necessarily great, but, VERY tolerable.

I recommend www.coolvcd.com. They also get their movies from Malaysia, have good customer service, or were quick when I ordered about a year ago. Prices aren't bad either, especially for older stuff.

And, I like playing my VCDs on my old laptop when traveling. Don't even need a DVD drive!
