Cheap motherboards?

I'm considering building a computer. I'm getting a case from a friend and my next step will be to find a motherboard. Though my budget is very close to nil. Is there such places that sell motherboards (decent) for close to dirt cheap? Can you guys give me some suggestions? Thanks!

Do a search on the For Sale/ Trade forum. I have seen super 7 boards go for 30-70 dollars. Or do a search on pricewatch or pricescan or any number of other search engines.

Pricewatch will do, but buy from vendors on at least the end of the second page. Get brands like Epox or Chaintech for low prices.

Try the Tekram site they have motherboards for 20 bucks, new with warranty.

If you buy new and too cheap, expect crashes, lockups, BSOD's. Even if it works initially, it will become marginal as the cheaper capacitors age.

The Pro2A has ATA100 and multiplier adjustments.

I don't like to take chances on questionable quality motherboards. A better bet is to get a used board or a refurb with a warranty. Check the For Sale forum and Hotdeals for the best deal.

To give an idea of what I'm talking about, Overstock.com has several Intel brand boards as well as some Soyo's. Go to techbargains and get a coupon to sweeten the deal. Good luck.

As to the quality of inexpensive motherboards, the Tekram boards are 1st quality boards but are out of production, most are slot one boards that will need a bios flash for the Celron 2 processor. I have bought many of these boards and have never had one give me a problem. High price does not guarntee quality, low price does not mean Junk. Many of these boards on crack racks with no failures.
