You can buy a Nokia 8260 at buy.com from 99.99, and there's a $20 coupon always floating around. There was a $50 rebate from Nokia but that promo ended on 11.12.00 (Nokia may extend the offer, often does..but I'm unsure). AT&T Wireless (Please don't judge us by our stock prices ) is running a promo called the Holiday Rebatepromo, its $75 service credit. I don't know if buy.com's phone comes with the rebate papers, but you could get them at any AT&T store.
Sidenote, while this deal is really for new customers..existing customers maybe able to have AT&T Wireless pricematch the phone (I know people have done this in the past) and you'll be able to get the $75 credit if you extend you contract for one more year (its not like you were going to leave the best Wireless company anytime soon ), Just call 1-800-888-7600 for Customer Care.

I personally thing the 8290 (GSM & a bit better version of the 8260) is a better phone, but it is often hard to find as not many service providers offer GSM service. If you don't really care about GSM and the Xpress-on changable face plates, this is a great deal for a cool phone.

Well this is what I come down to:

Buy.com phone
$99.99

Take off $20 off $100 coupon.
Take off $75 for signing up for a minimum $29.99 plan for a specified time.
Take off $50 rebate on the phone.

Doesn't this mean that you will end up with
$99.99
- ($20.00) coupon
- ($75.00) holiday special for signing up with at&t
- ($50.00) phone rebate
-----------

Total = you get $45 for signing up and a free phone?????????????!!!!!

What am I missing here?

Any clarification?

Thanks.

At AT&T's site they say the $75 rebate is a mail-in rebate. Is there a pdf of it somewhere? I ordered from buy.com on 10/31 but it still says the phone is "on order". I'm sure they activated it after 11/1 (if they've even activated it yet) so I should still be eligible for the $75 rebate right? Thanks.

Oops, nevermind! Found a copy of the $75 rebate at buy.com- it wasn't there a few days ago.

I was just paying my wireless bill online, and noticed that Nokia isn't going to renew the $50 rebate, instead they started a new rebate..its only $30, but hey...now you're "making money" after the rebates. The rebate *should* come in the new boxes.

Notice that the rebate says you must have paid the $25 activation fee... They COULD reject it because of this (thogh it never hurts to try.)

Now if only someone could find a good deal on 8290, not locked preferably, since Powertel, my provider, doesn't sell them.
They have a T28 tri-band though, which is way kewl, but it is going for $250. Damn.

tw1164: Nice find there. Been looking for another provider besides Sprint since I'd rather pay a little more to have less dropped calls. Not to mention, that phone just plain sweet!

Has anyone actually tried this and make sure it works? See here's the thing say you bought a phone using a different zip code right? I used atlanta zip code because they have lot more phones then what they offered for mine, including the 8260. O.k lets just say you moved down to where you live from atlanta (if you used their zip code on buy.com) could you get it switched? I mean I wouldn't mind w/o rebates getting a 8260 activated and all and then be able to switch to a local number $100 is already cheap for it. But has anyone made sure that the rebates will work?

you would be fine as long as AT&T supported the market you're moving too (and we're growing everyday), just call up Cust Care.
