My GF has an IBM TP41 (Centrino 1.4 or 1.5 GHz, 512MB RAM, CD-R/DVD). She does not own a TV and watches movies on this laptop. I would like to purchase her some decent 5.1 speakers; since she has a very small apartment I think the Logitech Z-640s would probably be sufficient.
However, to the best of my knowledge, the TP only puts out two channels. So, I'm stuck looking for a sound solution that will allow 5.1 channels to work with a DVD fairly easily (as she is not an advanced techie).
Anyone have any recommendations on a reasonbly-priced solution? I would prefer not to spend too much money on the sound card.
Anybody used this? http://www.newegg.com/app/view...=29-126-101&depa=0
It might make a nice pair with the Z-640s...
Any other suggestions? I'm thinking not more than $125 or maybe 150 for the speakers and the sound card. If it's going to suck I'll just get her a 2.1 setup and other stuff (and then get her a TV, DVD player, etc down the road a bit)...
Thanks
