Cheap old generation card vs same priced current generation

Scan just got in a load of 8800 series cards here. Unfortunately, they're all at proper prices, meaning they're not worth choosing over the current generation with the exception of this:

320mb 8800GTS for £46

Not a great card considering the rest of the 8800 family (mainly the GT), but I'm sure it beats everything else at that price point. I won't be buying it, though. Just pleasantful musings. ^_^

Highly recommended for ArmA2, regardless of what card you choose. There is nothing to be afraid of either, you've got to really go out of your way to push the clocks before breaking something becomes a concern.

I'll have to look up overclocking, or ask a friend to sit in with me whilst I do it. I'm not skilled at all, and have zero knowledge ^_^

ARMA II is extremely hard even on my system. You want at least a 4870 512 (1GB preferred) or a GTX260 in order to make it look semi-decent.

At what resolution are you playing it? I agree with 1gb; I wouldn't settle for any current generation card with 512mb or less. I like AA too much ^_^

£104 is the cheapest 1gb 4870 (pre-order) I can find, £109 in stock. I'm not too keen to be spending that amount, even though it's an amazing deal.

As I don't have a pressing need to upgrade, I'm just going to keep my eye out on great cards for around £50-£60.

I believe there's no point looking at a 3870 because they were consistently beaten by the 8800gt & gts. However, 1gb 3870x2 for £114? Or 1gb 3850x2 for £100? They seem like good deals. Still over my price-range, but interesting to muse upon in comparison to current GPUs.
