well, it didn't cost me that much...but that is what the bills came to.

I think I had to pay like $1200 or something.

Sears Optical runs a deal every few months for $89 or $98 (have seen both) for complete glasses using any frame under $150. This includes no line bifocals. They do attempt to sell you the options, which I did not get. I am very happy with the service, and glasses. I did have to have them remade (MY mistake - had an Rx that just did not work - my fault, not theirs, and they replaced without any questions at all). One of the cheap overseas sites did charge more for lightweight lens, and more for progressive no lines. This is included in the price on the deal they offer.

I always heard that it was computer software and pharmaceutical companies, at least in terms of actual incremental production costs.

Ordered from the $39.99 last sunday got the glasses by Friday. They shipped from NY.

total was $65, after I added the anti-glare stuff.

Glasses don't look bad. Good value.

Good thread, I would just like to add in that I saw some coupons for 39 dollar glasses on my favorite coupon website. There are coupons for

$5 off ANY purchase, $10 off $100, $15 off $150, $20 off $200 and free shipping, give it a look

Sun Glass Hut buys their designer glasses for about $3 a pair. That's a retail store buying sunglasses for so little. Crazy.

Damn, I should've seen this thread before buying my new glasses. But anyway, I added it to my favorites for future needs. Thanks man!

Years ago I read an article comparing various sources for glasses and it considered the alignment of the eye and the "sweetspot" (my term) of the lenses to be very important. This was not related to bifocals or progressive lenses, but single prescription lenses. My recollection was that most (all?) lenses have an area that gives the best vision. Unless a trained person took measurements with the frames to be used on the persons head, the lenses could not be cut so both eyes could look through that spot at the same time (I guess they could if you crossed your eyes. LOL). It was supposedly a kind of issue that most people would not realize unless they looked thru properly cut and other lenses back to back and then it made a difference that mattered to the wearer.

Any experts here know anything about that?

I got the zenni optical ones. they fit fine (sent in old glasses measurements) ... the only problem i have is the left nose pad came loose and I didn't screw i back in before going to walgreens and then it fell out near the Monistat/Depends aisle. btw, walmart had an online guide to choosing what glasses go well with what shape face. also if you have your picture on the computer you can grab the eyeglass photo nad put it over your face to have some idea what you will look like. you may need to resize one of the pics to have a reasonable approx.

Just out of curiosity: has anyone ordered prescription sunglasses from any of these sites? If so, how would you rate them? Also, any additional testimonials (from those that have actually sampled the goods) would be appreciated. I'm about to slap down some serious cash for new glasses (regular and sunglasses), and if I have a reasonable chance at getting quality lenses (frames too, would be nice) by going through any of these online discount places, then I might just bite the bullet.

Right now I wear Nike /w Flexon half frames. Bought them about 4 or 5 years ago for 400 bucks... At that time obviously I thought glasses cost that much; hell the anti-reflective coating was 100 dollars per lense! This was at D.O.C. Well I know I got ripped off - on the other hand the glasses are still in great shape. Though they are a bit worn - they are still sound and tight. Right now I also have a pair of guess sun glasses, which costed me 220 bucks (grr). My biggest issue buying online is getting a pair that fits, and fits right. I mean a few hundred bucks isn't a lot when you consider that it's something EVERYBODY is going to see - it's apart of your body. And who would want to get a 20 dollar arm? Or 35 dollar leg?

Anyways I'm planning on picking up a pair for emergency glasses. =-) you can't beat that price!

I grabbed 2 pair from one of the $29 places. One Rx sunglasses, One regular Rx.

They are just perfect for the 2-3 days a month that I use glasses. (Monthly night and day disposables otherwise.)

Are they as nice as the ones that you could get from lenscrafters for $300+? No. But they make a great inexpensive backup to my contact lenses.

Lasik won't help this and it could in fact make it mandatory to use reading glasses after lasik.

... mabey i missed something but your wearing glasses now, all the time. Isn't only needing them to read (not drive etc) better?

I ordered from $19 (Zenni Optical) & Optical4less. My order form Zenni came in today. I ordered a rimless memory plastic frame, the quality is average, my Rx is -4.00 and the lens is quite thick compared to my previous pair of Ray Bans. But I only paid $33 versus $300. I would recommend the anti reflection coating, it works great. I actually see alot clearer through these than the Ray bans. The only problem is that I specified the wrong shape when I ordered. So I ordered a different pair, semi-rimless metal this time with 20% gray tint, something more traditional ($30). I'm also waiting for my glasses from Optical4less, also a rimless but with metal frame ($65). I know it's significantly more than the others but, they had an option for thinner lenses. The ones from Optical4less is my main choice so I still have my fingers crossed. In conclusion, even though the Zenni glasses were not exactly as I envisioned them, I was still very satisfied. So one down and two to go!

3 pairs = $128
Ray Ban = $300

I'm still Ahead

how can you all buy frames w/out trying them on to see how they look on your face?

Yeah they also don't let people who have have cuts and wounds back into action because sometimes even after healing those come undone as well

When you're good looking...all frames are complementary Seriously, they give the dimensions of the frame so you'll have a better idea how the frames will fit your face (i.e., the frames should be almost as wide as your face at the temples).

I pretty much know what style of frames I like and it was pretty easy to pick out a pair.
