wje, do you know that if I only connect center, front L and R speakers, and play DVD in 5.1 mode, will I damage the receiver? I mean I don't hook up the real surround speakers, but still play DVD in 5.1. I guess my receiver is pumping power to every speakers, including the real speakers, even if they do not exist?

You should have no problems running it as described. You will only lose out on the surround effects that would have been directed to the two rear channels. Many people are only running their systems with 4 speakers: Front left, front right, rear left and rear right. They then create a "phantom" center channel speaker by adjusting the width of ther front left and right speakers. None of these people have ever experienced issues with not driving one channel of their receiver, so you shouldn't have any troubles by not using two rear speakers with your set up.

This receiver is trash even for $79 its not a good deal if you want it to sound good in a home theater What is this Ghetto HT 101?
No doubt it isn't top of the line. Luckily, I don't spend enough time in front of the tube to know the difference. Why would I pay $500 to watch the Sabres lose in ultimate surround sound anyway?!

This deal is not dead yet. The receiver is still 132.99 - $50 rebate = $82.99 .
I am still thinking about it....

You know you guys can use this to power a sub. Usin my old Onkyo (non-digital) to drive a pair of Memphis ST series 12's in custom cabinets (end tables). I couldnt bare to spend another $500 on a powered sub after lightning got mine.... about the same sound quality of my old Velodyne 12".

The nice thing is that most distortion in cheap amplifiers is limited to higher frequencies, wont be played through the sub.... food for thought

Can someone help me? I hooked up two sets of the $20 KLH speakers to this receiver and I've noticed a lot of noise in the rear speakers when I use DD5.1 Has anyone else noticed this noise or do I have a defective receiver. There is noise even when my dvd player is not turned on.

Thanks for the help

Yea, a lot of people (including myself) are having this problem. See the thread at F@t Wallet. And it isn't only limited to DD5.1 . The noise is also there when you're in the direct 6 channel input mode, so it's not the digital decoder or the coax cable.

I think the Pioneer VSX-D411 would be a much better receiver and is still only 159.99 at Best Buy.

Why buy a POS KLH and regret it?

I think everyone agrees KLH is not exactly top of the line, but it's just insanely cheap if you are on a very, very tight budget - or if you want to add a HT to a second room and spend as little as possible. Yes, the Pioneer is quite cheap and is almost certainly of better quality, but even that costs twice as much.

That's why people are buying this stuff. Personally, I woudn't buy this receiver but I can see why people would.

I haven't seen the receiver, but if it only has the preout jack and no speaker terminals for the sub, then you're out of luck, unfortunately.

No S-Video switching, which is a must for me.

I am tempted, but held back by the question I always ask myself before buying something that seems inexplicably cheap:

"Am I saving a dollar here, or wasting 2?"

I hope it pans out for you who jumped on it.
