I've been following the Big Lots recharageable battery and charger deal but I already have a charger. Looked around for a deal for more AA rechargeable batteries (can you ever have enough! I bought 11 packs at $4.99 each at the last Big Lots sale and they're already all in use!) and found this.

They have other batteries but I need AA. The great thing is UPS ground shipping was free ( sorry free shipping for CA only). Total came out to $24 for 24 batteries. Here are the specs:

I can easily use 24 AA. My Olympus 2100 needs 4 AAs, I keep 4 as a backup. Some of the newer r/c cars, boats, take 6 AAs. Remote controls? CD players? Don't even get me started on kid's toys. The list goes on and on.

There was a long thread on this started by laserpen about 9 months ago. it sold batteries made by BYD but somehow BYD disassociated themselves from this company and I am not sure how these batteries are or even more importantly how this website is. it is an archieved thread on rechargeable batteries. the free shipping was always just N California if I remember correctly

I have been following up these rechargable battery threads as well and here are my findings -

1. Batteryspace.com is your best bet for cheap NiMH batteries. MCM's Energizer cells (AA, 1800 mAH) at 89 cents each look attractive, but they don't specify the shipping charges at the time of checkout + there is a $2.99 handling charge. So batteryspace.com is a safer deal.

2. BYD and BatterySpace.com seem to have some sort of fallout. However, the cells that batteryspace.com sells seem to be quite good. As per an answer on their online forums "these cells are made in China and OEM for us under our brand name 'powerizer'".

3. Batteryspace.com has some green generic looking NiMH and some that have a silver+branded packaging. As per another answer on their online forums, these cells are the same except for the packaging.

4. They have free ground shipping for CA-usa

You could also just buy them on ebay. Seller "all-batteries" would appear to be batteryspace.com, or at least that's who's batts they sell. The 24 AA pack is 19.99, plus $7.50 shipping for first item and $2.00 for each addt'l.

I ordered a fair amount of the Duracell batteries from MCM a few months back and they have been great batteries. I placed another large order today, but was only able to get AA as they said they no longer carry the AAA. They occasionly run promotions and being on their email list I got an offer for free shipping ($100+) and a percentage off.

I am going to have quite a few extra, if anyone is interested in buying some off me I will sell them for $1 each + actual shipping (~$1-$3). Send me a PM if interested.

Now I just need to get me a nice charger, I have been using a cheap timed one. I think I am going to get the Maha C401FS as it appears to be the best charger out there.

The Maha C204F looks to be a good charger as well, and a fair amount cheaper. From what I can tell you pay the extra for the 401 to get independent charging (don't have to charge in pairs) and to have the option of a fast charge or a slow charge. Is that worth the $17 premium for the 401 charger? Are these chargers availible anywhere else for cheaper? Are there any coupons or deals for Thomas Distributing or any other place that carries these chargers?

They also sell this charger individually. I have had this one for awhile, and it is heavy-duty and works great. Funny thing, it does NOT have auto discharge (conditioning) as the website description states. You push and hold a red button for it, and that's not "auto".

My favorite is this one:

Has a cool computer-controlled LCD screen that tells you all the details you could ask for the batteries currently being charged. This one can also act as a battery checker, telling you exactly how much charge is left in the battery, on it's LCD screen. This one has true auto conditioning, deciding for you when the batteries being charged also need conditioning.

If anyone cares and lives near Fry's, some Fry's still have the "old" Lenmar NoMem Pro NiMH AA batteries. They are $18 for 10, but they are 2000 mAh. It is the highest I ever seen. Check the labeling of the package though because the newer NoMem are now 1600 mAh. They will be the same price as the "old" ones too.

Snot! I missed it. I really don't understand why Lenmar are making those 1600 mAh batteries now. No I take that back, I don't understand why only Lenmar *made* the 2000 mAh batteries.
