Just a suggestion but it might be a bit more helpful if you can be specific in the title of your post. For example, the brand of the UPS (Energizer) and the capacity (1000VA) would be a couple of ideas. Anyways, welcome to the forums and good deal for your first post.

Unless someone screws the pooch again, I don't think its gonna happen anytime soon. If anything, OM probably got new proofreaders...

It was quite the sweet deal tho!

Not a very revealing post title. I thought this was a thread about cheap UPS shipping. If you would add "battery backup" and maybe the price to the title, it would be much more informative.

I have an energizer one I got a few months ago. I can't get it to work though, maybe the battery is dead

Good point, first post, no profile, link to a no-name vendor is spam 90% of the time.

Hmm, TD and buy.com have it for 80$. It has AVR, and the manual mentions the battery is replaceable. I think battery warranty is only 1 year despite 3 year for the unit, forgot where I read that, though. ^^ I wish there was a review somewhere, I mistrust cheap batteries. ;/

It ends today, but I think this is a better deal. Got one and am very happy with it for the money. It's 450W versus 500W, but I'm happy. Of course I didn't pay shipping as I live near a CompUSA. Some of the others charge about $25 just to ship, so be warned.

Does it not turn on? Try pressing and holding the power button for 5 seconds. It will start beeping and then stay powered on. I had this issue with my Energizer UPS. For some reason you just can't press the power button and immediately release it like other UPSs.

Just got my Energizer a few days ago. It's worth noting it only has 6 power protected outlets and no surge protect only outlets. Both the parent link, the buy.com, and the Energizer spec page say it has 6 of each (the downloadable manual correctly states 6:0 when I checked before buying, though). Not sure what Tiger said since it seems to be gone from there.

Anyway only tested it for short periods so far and seems fine. The battery level jumps down quite a bit immediately at the start, but then seems steady. Has it's own app for showing power level & status, etc. Windows power management doesn't seem to realize it's there (seems to not have a USB option, only serial, etc), but the Energizer app seems more complete anyway.

Re load, I get 60% running my computer full out encoding (Antec 400 watt ps, dual Seagate 15k.3 drives, P4 3.4GHz, also 21" CRT plugged into it).

I ordered an APC XS 800va and got it recently...I love it. Honestly everyone on every forum I've seen recommends APC above any other brand by far, and I can easily see why. I didn't pay much more than that either actually...office depot with advantage, fat cash, 20 off 75 coupon, it came to like $97.

Very happy with my Belkin. Battery cuts in and beeps during brown-out experiences of last summer.

I like APC the best too. I have an APC rackmount unit that i hacked up. I have very large 100Ah batteries for it. The factory battery is only 7Ah i think. I never tested my runtime on battery because it is ridiculously long compared to stock.

You've got to watch out though. Not all UPS are really UPS. I got one that is CLEARLY labeled as UPS but turned out to be a SPS

i used an energizer ups before, the 500VA and it turned out it gave me about 5secs of backup time (although the timer on the tray icon said 2mins) and the box itself claimed 13mins. contacted tech support and told me to ship it to them. didnt want to deal w/ it so i just sold it.

now i have an APC UPS 500VA which i've tested gave me over 15mins (timer shows 20mins) of backup time.

Gave mine a full test today. It managed a little over 10 minutes before low battery warning and shutdown. Same system, but I wasn't encoding, just web browsing and word and whatnot so load was around 40-45%. You might have been too close to the wattage limit with the 500VA one, I read in some reviews that you get a similar effect.

Still I definitely would have gone for that APC deal we have a thread on now had I waited long enough for it to pop up. ^^ At least I can run my drives in power protect mode with this one, however, which was my main goal.
