I found really cheap Windows 2000 hosting for only 50.00 per year at www.4ahost.com. 100 mb of space, 20 emails, ASP and FrontPage support. They're setup to take paypal too

For NT support this is FLAMING.

And I mean FLAMING.

The only thing that it is missing is MS-SQL server support. ASP is absolutely no good without a decent backend (and Access via ODBC does NOT count).

ASP.NET might as well be useless on anything other than SQL server, OLE DB for Access is MUCH harder to code for.

Damn this is tempting. It really, really is...

I'd avoid this. Site looks fairly unprofessional. Accepts paypal only, so if you get in trouble you're probably going to be screwed. No contact information or information about the company.

Geez, this looks so unprofessional. If you are looking for cheap NT/2000 hosting, look at ReadyHosting - http://www.readyhosting.com/hosting.cfm I have a few clients on it for a couple of years and runs great. Even SQL server support for $25/year. It's not as cheap as this one at $99/year, but definitely worth the money, not to mention your second domain is 50% off.

Cheers,
Steve

Correct.

The site may look unprofessional but in about 75% of your hosting sites, they are just sub-leasing from a larger host. The number of qualified technicians that can manage a server, even NT, are lower than you'd think. The number of sysadmins that can actually administer a web data center, with routers, backup power supplies, rack-mounted and load-balanced servers securely are basically impossible to find.

Friend of a friend pointed it out to me. I guess he knows the owner and they are just putting the server up. Parent company has been around for a while I guess and they use all of their own equipment. They don't sublease. I thought they were going to support SQL Server, but I don't see it anywhere.

I know they aren't done with everything though. I signed up for one with them. We'll see how it goes.

Ah, ok, that makes more sense. A friend of a friend mentioned a Web site to you that you had never heard of, and you thought it was such an overwhelmingly hot deal that it prompted you to register at AnandTech for the first time and post your first message ever on the message boards.

Why didn't you just say so?

In all honesty, so what if it is his web site. It still is a good deal, most NT Hosting starts at $20 a month. SQL Server support does run more though but with MS software as much as it is....you need business to be productive. This site just leases from a larger host, so you're probably pretty safe.

However after playing with ASP.NET I just decided that I was going to go PHP. So I built a Mandrake box and have PHP, mySQL and Apache running on it. But if I had found this last week ago, I would have jumped on it. It really is a good deal; whether it's his or not.

If you don't mind the occasional database crash from cocurrent access that ODBC via Access will generate for you...you should be OK

Well, good luck to the company. Anyone that can offer good services for cheap is worth working on.

I just call em' like I see em'.

geez, I wish sometimes people would stop being so damn suspicious of everyone else. Makes you not want to post a deal if all of a sudden you have to defend yourself for trying to help out others.

And if the deal ain't good, don't bump it by replying with all this cr@p. (and yes, I do understand the inherent hypocracy in my message )

Just curious, but why would you even *care* which OS it's hosted on..FrontPage Extensions, or something??

I'm looking for a stable ASP host because I have an application already coded in ASP. If I was going to do it all over again, I'd do it in JSP/Java. But that's not a super-valid option for me, so that's why I'd take Win2K hosting over linux for this particular application.

By the way, if you jump on people every time they post just because their postcount is less than 10, their postcount will stay less than 10 and they'll pack up and leave.

Thanks, shad0wmaster. I don't know if I'll take advantage of this, but thanks for pointing it out anyway.

And for the rest of you, why don't you threadcrap next to someone your own size.
