Like one of those "Only for sale with a new PC" discs? Worked ok for me.

If it's a Restore Disc from a PC maker, then it might not work. In that case, you would have to run the restore process to install the old Windows version on your new PC, then run the WindowsXP setup. Then it should detect the Windows installation and proceed.

i copied the stuff from the win98 cd into a directory called windows on a disk and then cranked up the xp cd... it saw the directory, and asked me if i'd like to proceed... full format and repartition of the disk later it was all nice and loaded up...

it doesn't seem to care that the disk was formatted ntfs already or that the win98 would never have booted... frankly, i don't think they care too much as long as they get some money for xphome...

and i also got my $10 back on each of the two copies i bought at $59 the week before...
