I'm sorry to say that I have to crap on this deal. Where in hell did anyone ever get the idea that AOL is hot, no matter what the price?!?

Why on earth would you pay 9.95 to get AOL. If you have access to internet you have everything plus more w/o AOL. My god man don't give people idea on how they can waste their money. Let me be the first to say AOL RIP, your day will come soon.

Ok I just figured out what BYOA is. LOL why would anyone want to pay for AOL without the internet access!

No thanks I'll stick to the $5.75/month I pay for unlimted DUN internet. No internet software = bliss.

Yes you do. AIM and AOL are totally seperate. Even though AOL doesn't charge, it still checks for a valid CC every month. When I updated my about-to-expire CC I didn't expect to need to update the AOL info, but about a month later the account stopped working (using webmail too, not the AOL client). When I called at 4am the CSR told me it was because they didn't have a current CC on file but that there were no charges I just needed to update my info. Works fine now, still not being charged.

OK, call it stupid but I've been with AOL since its inception. I shell out 14.95 a month for the BYOA plan plus 45.00 a month for RR DSL. The ONLY reason I stay with AOL is so that my wife can retain her screen name. Let me make sure I got this right....I can effectively cancel my subscription and retain the screen name with AIM as long as I have an active CC on file with them?!!? How do I go about doing that?!!? Anyone done it?

this is idiotic, people paying money for the IDEA of "this is how Internet works", and that idea is not even true... pathetic...

Stephan28,

You can get AOL BYOA for $7.95 per month.

I dropped my separate account a few months ago but cannot convince my wife to drop them too. But through my prolonged drop process (they kept offering me free months to stay onboard - 7 in total) I found that you can get full access for $7.95 BYOA. That is what my wife pays after the free months thay gave her in addition

Just download AIM and you should be able to sign on using your AOL username and password (I was, but that was ~3 years ago).
Your e-mail account will be gone. There's no way to retain that without the BYOA plan. Just send out an e-mail to your family/friends and use your RR e-mail address (you can make up to 5 with them as well I think)

P.S. RR is cable not DSL

Edit: From what lsimpson50 says, you may be getting ripped off too! :Q

E-mail wise, can't you do essentially the same thing with POP3 e-mail? Download and then disconnect and read it later?

I joined AOL for purely the social aspect. Most of the women I like are AOL users, it's simple for them and they are gadget freaks. They post personals, go into chat rooms, and what not.

I have had quite a few great nights due to services I would not have if I were not an AOL user...they really target local markets with their social features.

Now that I am married, I have found little use for the service...other than possibly losing my mailboxes there.

My God, those people should stop paying AOL to rip them off and invest that 10 bucks a month. Maybe they can save up enough to buy the Brooklyn Bridge or some lovely oceanfront property in Kansas.

I love AOL, it confines 23 million people I don't want to have anything to do with in one easily avoided domain. Just apply a couple of decent filters and all those morons just cease to exist. Hell, AOL is just a cage for the untrained apes of the internet world. We can look and laugh, but the zookeepers have them all penned up so that they can't hurt anyone.

Little do people know, but Kansas was actually covered by oceans and glaciers millions of years ago. One thing that keeps me on AOL is my email address and IM handle.

This is hot, they told me 2.95 a month for webmail only. This is a hot deal if you have family members who are reluctant to give up their email addresses.

How did you get them to offer you that?

I told them I wanted to cancel because my family only uses AOL for their email. I have been using my cable modem to access AOL for some time and figured 14.99 for BYOS was too much. They offered to lower it to 9.99 for BYOS, but I told them I don't even use the software, only email. So they offered me email access only, for 2.95 per month. Webmail only, no AOL software connect.

You, obviously, don't know how to use AOL to it's fullest potential It's not allowed to discuss here and it's not sexual

Okie, Okie, JUST LISTEN! AOL has the advantage of Warez!!! You are able to get in chat rooms and download about anything you want, better that IRC and better than Newsgroups. I hear everyone dog on AOL for the fact of shear ignorance. It was and still is the greatest source of getting warez. Some of the worlds greatest warez groups started on AOL (i.e. UPS, Core, etc.). I personally don't download warez anymore, mainly due to the fact that I work in the Cybercrime division of our great government. I have had first hand knowledge of how AOL works and what the advantages and disadvantages are of said program, and I do believe that only the ignorant lash out. Please educate yourself before you speak!

LOL!!!!!!! such a l33t warez m0nkey u r.
lets see, should i use t0psites or login into my l33t a0lhell chat room?

never used aol, nor plan to. before boardband, used free dialups such as netzero or school server. i cant see any1 actaully willing to pay 10buck for dang dailup let alone 23.
