cheapest and best DSL router??

I'm looking to pay only around $60 at most for a router, and was wondering what was the best one out there for this kind of money? I'm only looking to hook up two computers, so amount of ports isn't important. I guess with a $60 price limit, I can't be too choosy anyhow. Thanks for any advice.

unlikely.
The least expensive and best routers are from linksys.
They have different models. Maybe one is somewhere in that price range.
I doubt it though.

good luck!

I think D-link makes a few cheap routers, but i wouldnt reccomend them. The best value in routers right now is the Linksys BEFSR41, this router can be had for around $75, personally i think it is worth the extra cash. I am sure that tons of people on this forum (including me) use this exact router and can give you plenty of good reviews.

Find a Netgear RT314. No super-duper firewalling stuff, but you can write a firewall-like rule that passes most security scans online.

i agree, i've used that Linksys Router in 2 houses and it rocks. my 3 roommates and i used to all jump on a C-Strike Server online and the router would never lose a step. oh yeah, i work at Office Max and we have them on clearance for $69. just go to any store and if they don't have one just ask if they can transfer one in from somewhere.

I just got a great deal on the SMC Barricade 7004ABR 4-port router with print server. I hear it's pretty good, plus it was cheap(got it for under $45 US cause of the Rebate being on now for $25).

Mavrick007,
Where, dude?
Not at Newegg for that price.

Great reviews at Newegg for Linksys Instant Broadband EtherFast Cable/DSL Router with a built-in 4-port 10/100 Switch.
I was sold on SMC before I saw this, however SMC is new to Newegg so there hasn't been time for many reviews.

True, at Newegg the router is going for $77 now and I don't know if they link the rebate or not. Yes, SMC is new to Newegg's listings cause when I first starting looking for a router, it wasn't on there, but I find that they are lacking alot in the networking groups anyway cause I heard of some new routers out that sound good, like the new one from Netgear.

I got it for $69.99 at Futureshop (Canada but would work out to less than $45 US but goes a bit above with tax) for this price, and cause they gave me the run around I got it with the rebate right at the store cause of their ad which was a bit misleading. Eventually I want to go wireless, but for $45-50 I couldn't pass it up, especially since it has a print server as well as a hardware firewall. I paid more for my 5 port switch a year ago than this (which is also SMC).

Linksys BEFSR41

Got it on the Current HotDeal for under $50... had our whole house up and running in around an hour counting the time to run lines and all. Trouble free with a built in switch..

couldn't ask for anything more

D-link DI-704. They are regularly below $60 and even Office Depot/Office Max has them. If you could get a Netgear RP-114 for $60 get it. Very stable and fast router. I had nothing but problems with Linksys. Maybe they have gotten better but check practicallynetworked.com
and see the reviews and feedback from actual users.

Another vote for Linksys. 10/10 for performance, price, and ease of installation.

I heard that the Linksys BEFSR41 isn't good for connecting computers more than 20 feet away frome each other from some reviews on CNET.

I have no idea why they would say that. My mom's laptop is on a 50 foot cat5e that frequently gets stepped on, and she has super-fast network transfers.

Another vote for the Linksys BEFSR41. Great router. It rarely requires maintainence. =)

Have a Linksys BEFSR41 that went bad within a year. While I was waiting for them to replace it (took about a week) I went out and bought a Gigabyte GN-BR401 4port router switch. Noticeable improvement in throughput. Advertised as having 80 mb/sec throughput. On the box, the Linksys has a sticker that says it only has 1.5 mb.sec throughput. Most stores here in Japan advise ADSL (8mb/sec) customers NOT to buy the Linksys. When true, highspeed internet comes to the masses in the US, you will be disappointed with the Linksys. I was. Price was cheaper than the Linksys too. Don't know about how it is priced in the US.

i was too cheap to spend anything more than $0 , so i just gathered up some old parts, pentium 100mhz/mobo, video card , 2 network cards and 1 floppy drive, and together with coyotelinux, built my own dsl router.
not the easiest route, but hey its free.
