So, Time Warner is increasing the monthly rental cost 50%. Even after splitting this three ways, it's worse than Comcast was. (and TWC still makes me miss Comcast in a million other ways) Here's the list of "approved" modems:

While you can run 30 Mb on a D2 device you will get more consistent speed out of a D3, but its your money and your call,. keep in mind though that soon rather than later cable companies will EOL D2 modems, although I imagine it will be years down the road as D3 modems have no tech features that prevents them from using D3 systems, they support the right sized carriers, they just do not bond multiples together.
As to worse than comcast was... we charge rental and have for over 6 years now, we're up to $8/month for rental fees. Careful what you claim, I work for Comcast. Everyone always thinks the grass is greener somewhere else, but cable is pretty much cable in the end.
I recommend avoiding at all costs the all in one gateway devices, even from Motorola, you will get better performance out of a sidecar router of a strictly modem device.
After that never seen a Zyxel in 7 years, so no comment, zoom and moto seem to be tit for tat as far as who thinks one is better. I'd Google it and see which is cheaper, keep in mind that buying used modems CAN [not will but CAN] end up in a sticky situations as netizens like to steal cable companies modems and sell them online for some stupid reason and as you can imagine the cable company will not provision this device, but instead request it is returned to them, which according to the law is the correct solution. Beware the too good to be true prices is all I am saying.
