I basically just need to be able to run 2K/XP/NT, access WIFI, and browse the net. As long as it isn't painfully slow like a 500 mhz was..

Tips?

Any Laptop that can run Windows 2000 pro, can run Wireless 802.11b/g (WIFI is not Hardware it is a certification).

Just make sure that the Laptop has 32bits PCMCIA Slot, or a functional USB.

However if you want better control over the Wireless you are better of with WinXP.

The Wireless does not care what the speed of the Computer is. Therefore, you can buy a laptop according to your OS Speed preference.

I want to spend no more than $400, preferably $300ish, but I probably missed the good black friday deals.

Any new Laptop can do Wireless very weel, most of them come with Wireless pre-Installed.

There are sales out there as low as $399 with rebate. BF is not the only day of the year with good sales.

Why would you pay $300 for a beat up used laptop (like the one that you linked to) when you can get a new one for a few dollars more? Best Buy had a $250 laptop on BF, and there have been a few $399 laptops surfacing since then as well. Spend some more time searching before you spend your hard-earned cash.

The problem with the above pcmall units is old Batteries.

The each state: ?Lithium Ion Battery is included. (Battery holds charge but is not warranted)?.

Which mean the Battery either is already useless or would become one fast.

New Battery goes for about $100.

So you are back to paying the same price as a current new Laptop.

If you have enough RAM or fast harddrive on the 500mhz laptop, it'll make it seem less slow.

Sorry about that.

I found Z2RCF76C (Inspiron 1501) for $459. Be sure to select <$500 under the price option.

It's not letting me link directly to the product. Sorry.

You can definately find some good and cheap laptops at dell outlet. I have found a few <250 B130's with wireless, and some even had a 15in screen. Of course just realize that for that much money, you can't expect too much: ie. 256 mb, 30gb, yada yada. but definately able to surf the web.
